MRc E-Challenge - 2023 edition wrap-up

Greetings gentleman!

It's been quite some time since the final round of the E-Challenge was held, but the real life commitments were exceptionally demanding for all the year for me (and kinda still are), therefore it took until now to conclude the series we held in early 2023.

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who did attend the series and was not put away by its sheer complexity. You guys did provide some awesome racing action across 5 real life track replicas.

Equally I'd like to thank everyone involved in the organization of the series - the New Dimension Racing crew for their traditionally professional handling of the championship and all its dependencies, the SimBroadcasts personnel for providing the awesome broadcasts from all championship rounds, the Master Race car team for giving me the necessary support wherever it was needed, and last but not least, to the Live for Speed developers for their technical support that makes this kind of dreamed series possible in first place.

With all 10 races completed in first months of 2023, let's have a look at the final results so we can officially crown the 2023 champions.

The fight for the overall lead was intense among many drivers, but ultimately it came down to a showdown between the Hungarian Gábor Gyüre and Malaysian Imran Azhar, as they came just 1 point apart into the final race of the final round in Adelaide. Gábor however was able to withstand the pressure and secure the number one spot even after the final race had concluded with late Safety Car. His 294 championship points therefore make him the official 2023 E-Challenge Driver Champion, dethroning Jimi Virtanen, who conquered both previous E-Challenge runnings. Imran Azhar tried his best but his 283 points were not enough for the overall victory, however it was more than enough for safely bringing home the second place ahead of Niko Puntola in third place with 266 points next to his name.

The teams championship was little more straight forward, as the team of Master Race car won with a comfortable lead over the team S1DUS (MRc scored 474 points and S1DUS 377 points). Things probably would be a little bit different if Niko Puntola had not run under the Pacifi.Tech team this year instead of his typical S1DUS affiliation. Third place goes to Race Green Autosports, carrying home 337 points, much improving their overall score from previous years.

Here are the complete results:
*2 worst results from the first 8 races are dropped as per 2023 championship rules

The drivers eligible for the monetary prize will be contacted in the following weeks/months with further details. Apologies for all the delays, however as I mentioned at the beginning, life's been a b!tch for the past year, so please be patient...

Additionally, we made a little bit of secondary awards to point out some interesting statistics and situations we encountered this year.

E-Challenge awards:

Best driver award - Gábor Gyüre
Who would think that? Let's slap another trophy on top of his first place trophy.

Loser of the year award - Imran Azhar
This one goes to the drivers with the most 2nd places - Imran was anything but a loser on the track, however the second one to finish is the first one to lose and Imran was the most frequent competitor to get the silver trophy.

Clean driver award - cancelled...
While this has been a fundamental part of the E-Challenge since its beginning, the time it takes to evaluate all drivers across all events is massively demanding and at this point due to the time constrains resolving this award is out of question. However, we still encourage clean driving and will attempt to give this award a proper go in the 2024 edition again!

Most efficient driver award - Imran Azhar
No one else did stand out in terms of energy management more than Azhar, his energy budget was exceptionally bountiful almost every race and this award is well deserved.

Torpedo award - Scawen Roberts
Scawen had a great time racing with us in the last two rounds, however there were few things not going his way - one of them being trying to catch the Safety Car queue in Adelaide and heavily rear-ending Jared Meade in the process. Luckily no harm was done to either driver.

Aerobatics award - Scawen Roberts
Scawen certainly had an eventful evening in Adelaide - on the last lap of the last race he clipped the inside barrier of turn 8 and went airborne immediately after, performing an exceptionally difficult stunt. Kudos for landing on the wheels and managing to finish the race anyway.

Commitment award - G. Gyüre, I. Azhar, N. Puntola, J. Meade, R. Kronpušs, L. Lucidi, P. Vitor, O. Grigorjevs
This one simply goes to everyone who attended all races in the 2023 edition of the E-Challenge. Thank you all for sticking with us!

Best finish award - Karolis Motieujitis
K. Motieujitis had regular strong finishes, however nothing beats his last lap of race 1 in New York. Coming fifth from the last turn and stealing the podium by 0,04 seconds on the line is definitely something we did watch over and over again.

Best WTF moment award - Yassin Bidal
Sometimes you just don't understand how something had happened - that's possibly the case with Y. Bidal's Mexico City self knockout in race one. It is even more funny if you consider it was still under the Safety Car condition.

Bad luck award - Jared Meade
Jared was having his own race in Singapore, however things completely outside of his control had impeded his drive, as he was hit by a rogue tyrestack from two turns before. No harm was done, but this was definitely one of the weird unlikely events.

Consistency award - Imran Azhar
Imran Azhar once again ladies and gentlemen. With average position of 2,3 and standard deviation of 0,94868 Imran was the most consistent competitor in the series.

Best race director award - J.P.
This one goes to a person that did the best job overseeing the E-Challenge racing. Just posting his initials is enough to let you know who it was Razz

Qualifying hero award - Gábor Gyüre
Unsurprisingly, most pole positions were connected together by Gábor. So here's another award!

Fastest lapper award - Niko Puntola
This year points were offered even for fastest laps. Niko Puntola made the most of it with most fastest laps done by anyone and gets another award.

Best newcomer award - Alan Terzic
Terzic joined the series in the very final round - the newcomer dramatically miscalculated the energy in the race 1, then almost won the race 2. That's quite a progress!

Hope you liked and enjoyed the 2023 E-Challenge, very soon (within few days) we will be back with yet another refined electric racing action as our goal is to further improve this product and make Live for Speed great again! So stick with us, we'll be right back!
