RETRO CUP 24 | Season Finale 2h

Server: Retro Cup

WHEN: Monday, September 9th
WHERE: Westhill de la Sarthe, a custom westhill layout!
WHY:: Spectacular track, 2 hours season finale with Double Points. All the championship battles being decided. This is going to be epic!

2 intense months of vintage racing, 6 spectacular locations, more than 50 different drivers took the challenge of the RETRO CUP 24.
Some have failed, but others proved their strenght and battled it out in every round of the season, surviving the dangers of vintage multiclass racing.

We're now coming to the last chapter of this history. Just one, big race, left to go.

RETRO CUP 24 is about to reach its climax: three titles being decided, a long, spectacular track to master and a 2 hours race to deal with.
You'll need concentration, speed, race-craft, nerves of steel to be able to reach the finish in one piece and throw your hand into the hair in celebration!

This is the ultimate challenge, this is the Retro Cup Season Finale.

It's time for the 2 Hours of Westhill de la Sarthe!

WESTHILL DE LA SARTHE

The circuit for this very special Season Finale is a returnee: used for the first time in the opening edition of the Retro Cup, the scenery for this final showdown is WESTHILL DE LA SARTHE!

I've built it with the Circuit de la Sarthe of Le Mans in mind, so i paved a lot of Westhill's external roads, extending the track limits towards insanity in order to achieve the same vibes as iconic Le Mans sections like the Hunaudières straight.

This track is a complete challenge for the driver, as it contains most type of corners and, also, traps!
Slow, technical sections, opposed to the longest straights of the season, where you'll be on your accelerator for 20-30 seconds, exceeding speed records for the Retro Cup!

You'll start in the Westhill's traditional box section, before launching into hyperspace in the countryside with a bonkers long straight that's reminiscent of the Hunaudières.

There's a variety of landscape, from the circuit to the country, also visiting Westhill's old village with a very complex, technical section that's going around the houses.

The circuit have been slightly revised from last edition: you'll find a better flow in some of the corners, better kerbs and new technical sections, making the track a more complete challenge!

But it's not all fun & games: you'll have to be super focused all the way through the race, cause one mistake here can end your race pretty easily.

Drop one wheel on the grass and you'll find yourself slamming into a tree or a bale.
Drive too hard on the kerbs and ramps and you'll damage your suspensions, leading to costly pit raparis.

You'll have to be fast, but you'll also have to be smart around Westhill de la Sarthe!

Jump onboard the new Porschell 539 for a lap of the circuit!

One of the highlights of this year's was RETRO CUP 24, despite (balance of performance) not being perfect, it provided awesome racing moments throughout the whole season in all categories, Prototypes, GT's and Road cars.Thumbs up
Specially Road cars class had, either by chance or skill, usually the top3 class drivers fighting for P1 during most of the 90 minutes race.

Special medal to Lorenzo for the layout creation and design, despite some unforeseen rare occurrences where some corners required adjustment after publishing, all were really well-made, easy to find markers for braking points and turn-in, overall a great addition to the library of great LFS layouts.
Na-na

My thoughts for next season would be to reduce the number of cars and classes. We are not that many, averaging 17 race finishers this season, that divided by 3 classes and 10 cars sometimes creates very lonely races.Zzzz

PROTOTYPES

The Grand finale of Retro Cup 24 in the Prototype class saw four entries taking on the challenge of the 2 hours long event!
Pole Position was set by Championship Leader ZFRL Thehemuli, who set the track on fire with super fast lap times from the get go.

Unfortunately, his biggest title contender Mazdarati, was unable to participate in the race, taking some of the pathos away from the final race.

P2 on the grid was taken by another championship protagonist, RG^LORENZO, ahead of team-mate RG^RONY, while another prototype entrant, S1DUS^Unite, started from the very back of the field.

From the green flag of the race, ZFRL Thehemuli made clear his intentions to dominate the race and take the championship win in style.
RG^LORENZO tried to follow the leader, but suffered another catastrophical technical failure during Lap 1, ending his hopes for a good result.

Rony took the opportunity and launched himself in P2, but the pace of Thehemuli ahead was just too strong and consistent.

Thehemuli sliced through traffic like a butter and kept it clean all race long, taking the final chequered flag of the year in celebration.

He's the Retro Cup Prototype Champion of 2024!! Thumbs up
Three race wins, multiple podiums, it was one hell of a season for the Finn driver, who takes the crown from Rony's hands.

P2 in the race and fastest lap for the former Retro Prototype Champion, RG^RONY, who ended a troublesome season with a good final result and P4 in the standings.

RG^LORENZO managed to comeback from his early issues and end the race in P3, third place in the final standings for him behind Mazdarati, a solid season for the italian of Race Green, with one win and 2 podiums.

GT PRO

As it's been all season long, the GT Class was once again the most crowded of them all even in the 2 Hours Season Finale!
12 GT's took the start of the race, and it was an hectic battle from the get go at the front.

Poleman B2R Rejekt had to resist the hard attacks of champ leader RG^NOSLE in the first few corners, while /SRP/ Master tucked right behind in P3, looking to make a decisive pass.

Rejekt and NOSLE went side by side in Turn 4, and slightly on the grass: Master managed to make the most of the situation and take provisional P2 behind Rejekt.
But NOSLE used the slipstream to his advantage in the super long backstraight section, and jumped back in P2, in the hunt of the leader Rejekt!

This trio of cars set the pace at the front and remained more or less compact till lap 8-9, when /SRP/ Master started to make mistakes, losing ground from the front duo and running out of patience, retiring from the race.

Behind the lead pack, O.A was leading newcomer VM DejaVu and [MRC] Jsk, who made a jumpstart and lost half a lap at the beginning of the race.

But in front, the fight for the victory started after the pit stop phase: in Lap 24, NOSLE managed to catch back Rejekt, and the duo started battling corner after corner.
There was a gentlemen agreement at these two, 1 & 2 in the standings: they waited for each other everytime one managed to create a gap, duelling till the last few corners of the race.

In the end, Rejekt emerged from the last corner in first position, but conceded victory to RG^NOSLE, who waited for him earlier on after a spin.
Classy scenes in Westhill de la Sarthe, vintage emotions as RG^NOSLE takes the chequered flag and he's the RETRO CUP 24 GTPRO Champion!

2nd in the race and in the standings finishes B2R Rejekt, race winner and multiple podium finisher this season.
3rd position in the race for O.A, best result of the season for him, while [MRC] Jsk finishes 4th in the race despite is troubles and closes of 3rd in the WDC.

INNO won the PloverP2200 battle, beating Hermanni by a comfortable margin!

ROAD CLASS

The most entertaining class of the Retro Cup 24 season hands down: going into Westhill de la Sarthe, 3 drivers were separated by 9 points in the standings, with a fourth one not far behind.
B2R Stiefla, SG Madjester, RG^M@CI3K and S.Martin, the Fab 4, ready to fight for the title in these 2 final hours of the season.

Pole Position was taken by championship leader B2R Stiefla, as the Fab 4 started the race in compact formation, one after another.
But the first drama of the race was soon to come: at the exit of the long backstraight section, the porsche whisperer RG^M@CI3K was slightly hit by the GT of NAUGHTY.
Not a big contact but enough to send the porsche title contender wide on the grass and loose control, slamming into a trackside pole.

M@CI3K managed to escape the crash without big damage, and resumed the race, but lost around 15 seconds.

At the front, Stiefla was leading the race, while S.Martin and Madjester traded place for a few times, but the leader was still the Born to race driver.

But, out of the Top 3, the driver who looked the fastest around Westhill de la Sarthe was S.Martin: one of the most consistent drivers in the championship went all out, attacking championship leader B2R Stiefla at the start of Lap 9.

A duel of three started, with the contenders trading places and going for moves: in Lap 12 it was S.Martin who emerged at the front, trying to break away.
He was looking comfortable in front till Lap 19: when he crashed into the barriers at the end-straight chicane, losing the lead to Stiefla again!

The trio compacted again: by lap 26, the battle was intense: S.Martin got back in front, but Stiefla was looking for an opening till the last few corners of the race.

At the end, S.Martin managed to hold off and cross the line in celebration, he takes his first Retro Cup win!
But scoring P2 was enough for B2R Stiefla to be crowned RETRO CUP 24 ROAD CLASS CHAMPION!

P3 in the race and P2 in the final standings for Madjester, who just misses out the title after a super competitive campaign.
P3 in the final standings for the Porsche Whisperer, RG^M@CI3K, who wasn't able to confirm his title this season, a season with some highlights but also crashes and unlucky moments.
