i put up a server and i put my pc as the host but what i want is to be able to leave the server but i would like the server to stay running. how can i do this?
It sounds like you've been using the full LFS client. Instead use the dedicated server (available from the LFS homepage) for servers that you intend to run for an extended period of time.
No such track code. Take a look at the track code listing in this thread (bottom of the first post). I believe you were after /track=BL1 (for the pedantic amongst you, see my next comment).
These directives technically don't exist (if I remember correctly they existed at one time and may still work for backwards compatibility). I suggest reading the README.txt file about the currently available directives and what they do. It's quite succinct and you may never know when these may stop working (I've no idea if they already have or not tbh).
Ok, lets start from the top.
If you use the full client, when you leave the game, the host shuts down.
If you use the dedicated server, you don't use that to play the game. This bit of software sits and does all the serving of game requests without the full client data and processing requirements. Basically sits there looking blank and boring, but uses very little resources. As soon as you shut down that, it's like the same thing above; you're closing down the host.
To connect to your dedicated server, either select it from the in-game menu using the full LFS client, or connect to your loopback IP (Click "Multiplayer", then "Join Specific Game", then select local network, then type in 127.0.0.1), assuming its on the same PC (from your screenshots). Although this might seem pointless, its the only "way" to do it, without leaving your full client sitting there, consuming loads of processor time, in spectators mode.
Obviously either way, your PC needs to be online and turned on.
There are a few companies out there who can provide you with a server (for a cost of course); 500servers, liveforspeed.fr, etc. Perhaps you may wish to look at those?
right i can start a server ok but it does take up my pc only and when i leave it leaves aswell, what your saying is i can start a server and have it running in the background (kinda) but even if i go offline the server shut down and the only way to keep it going is to pay someone else for me to use there pc to keep the server runnin 24/7?
Erm, sort of. Either you keep your PC on and online all the time, or you pay someone else to setup a server in a nice air conditioned data centre, with high speed internet links, back up power systems, etc.
What it boils down to is that your PC is what's responding, the only thing the official LFS servers do is list your server as being available. As soon as whatever is hosting the server is uncontactable (i.e. turned off, or offline from the internet), theres nothing to respond to people trying to connect, and therefore no server
ok then i will have it runnign as that other host thing and i have joined as another player "from the outtside"
i will keep this going for know
isnt there a way of keep the server goin by changing from host to host ie the last person that is left playing the server stays with untill there is no one left? say if i hosted the game and then someone else joined then i left could they take the role of being host?
how do i find out the admin pass word that has been set? at the moment the server is called "host name" and i am unsure why. bu there is a server runing though and i entered what i thought was that admin password in the host password but it didnt work.
but i have tried everything that i can think of to be admin but i can do it. i have sused out the config file finally all i had to do was change it to a notpad file lol but this god damm admin password is doing my head in
im all up and runnig and ready to go just need my buddies back
just one more thing my mouse gets stuck in the lfs window and i have to press the windows button on my kb to bring up the start menu and then i can move my mouse out from the lfs window, what causes that and how can i put it right?
also just to be sure are you sure you do not have admin? when going via the Dedicated server you cannot visually see that you have it 9eg the kick / ban immediatly via the buttons) if you are running the dedicated server you must use the commands.. eg /kick username /ban username 15 /track as2 ect. to check if you have admin or not normally what i do is when i join type /msg test admin if yo see the text come up then you are logged in with admin.. if not it will say you do not have admin rights.
