AWS 2025 - Round 5
All-wheel-drive Winter Series 2025
Round 5

Sunday, 16th February
18:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET

After race with longest lap comes the race with fastest race speed - welcome to AWS diversity racing! The Winter 200 is the most classic AWS round as it has been in schedule in every single season, often even as season finale. This year as penultimate round the race at Kyoto Oval will once again benefit drivers who can cooperate with others - 2 cars have twice the engine power, but less than twice of wind resistance! With high speeds, any errors can be costly,so winning this race has proved to be difficult on regular basis - event's history shows only a single 2 time race winner during 13 years.

As always in the oval rounds we will use hotlap qualifying to ensure solo effort being decisive in order to take high grid positions. The running order of qualifying will be decided from Drivers Championship standings - lowest placed drivers will start qualifying while standings leader will take his run last. Everyone will have to run 3 laps - outlap and 2 timed hotlaps, after which driver should spectate, only fastest lap counts of course. 2nd timed lap is optional - theoretically cars are faster in 2nd lap,but in case of a mistake, driver can spectate without finishing 2nd timed lap.

As usual,to avoid many questions,Race Green Events' statement about bumpdrafting:
"With closed wheels cars it is not forbidden, but in case of any reported incidents it will be treated as intentional contact,so everyone has to make sure that he knows what he is doing!"

Previous round pretty much sealed the championship of being a duel for title with 3 outsiders still eligible, but all of them need high points scores and hope for both leaders to have a bad race - if any of the leading 2 wins,it will pretty much rule out of championship the positions 3 to 5. Also the minor award Oval Trophy is at stake this sunday where one of the drivers will enter round with 4 points advantage over the only 2-time winner of Winter 200.

The fastest race of AWS returned as penultimate round of 2025 - Winter 200 as always was a 200 kilometer race around Kyoto's oval track with FXR. And as always cooperation was the main element of success. Quite early in the race it was clear that only 5 drivers are candidates for race win as other 4 had or got involved in some trouble, losing touch with leading five. First both front row starters got some gap to rest early on,but around half distance all leading 5 drivers were running together until next split happened.

The 2-time polesitter of Winter 200 Falcon got a great lap together and scored his 3rd ever AWS pole position and led 6 laps during 1st half of the race, however 2nd half a lot went wrong for championship candidate as he lost contact to leading duo and eventually lost connection due power issues. The defending drivers champion and Winter 200 winner Sobis led his first lap in this race just in 2nd half of the race after the "reunion" on the track - eventually he together with M.Kapal run away from competition with effective bumpdrafting as both set the fastest lap of the race on same lap. As always in such situations, everything came down to decision on the final lap - Sobis stayed behind M.Kapal before last turn, got a great pull over the start finish straight, which was enough to pass his rival by length of car's nose over finish line, clinching his 3rd win of Winter 200 (only driver to score more than 1 win). Despite leading more than 3/4 of laps during the race, the 2013 race winner M.Kapal had to settle for 2nd place finish. Late in the race Rony was able to drop off his teammate and run the 3rd position home to score his 7th podium finish of this round.

Both championship leaders did not appear on podium for the 1st time this season, despite one of them losing connection, there was not a big difference of points scores for both - Dzidoris finished 4th and Falcon was classified 7th,taking also the bonus point for pole position,so the gap between both leaders was increased by 2 points, reaching a total of 4. This means that 2nd place finish in season finale is enough for the 3-time vice champion Dzidoris to score his 1st series champion title of AWS as with 3 wins he wins every points tie situation - setting fastest laptime in qualifying for last round lowers the requirement to 3rd place finish to clinch title. Falcon however needs to outscore his teammate by 5 points. The defending AWS champion Sobis is the only other eligible driver for championship win, however with 11 points gap he needs huge failure of his countryman for any chances for another title.

Oval trophy has been now concluded as Winter 200 was the 2nd of 2 rounds for this award - by winning the last race,Sobis repeated last year's success and scored his 2nd Oval trophy award in row,3rd overall, winner of 1st round for this award Falcon was classified just 7th in this race, pushing him downd to 2nd place in Oval trophy standings,3rd is Dzidoris. Rookie of the year award is also pretty much secured - leader Cyk needs to score just 2 points in final race in Fern Bay to clinch the award without caring if his main rival Madjester wins or not - the gap between 2 only active rookies is 16 points.

Even if the Teams championship has been secured,RGA still scored the most points of the round between all teams, even if it was the smallest amount of the season. Yes motorsports is in clear 2nd place, however still needs to score few points to make sure 3rd place team Zafiralis does not pass in the final round. The 5-time Nations cup winners Lithuania added another success as they clinched the 6th title after this race - their points gap now is 64 points which cannot be decimated anymore. The defending champions Finland was a weak competition this season as they barely can hold their 2nd position over single driver nation Canada which is just 2 points off 2nd position.

The season finale of this winter league is set in the winterless island in the Carribean - Fern Bay will host the final round in it's rallycross configuration, where the low power K-car Chorus Attendanze will be used as the transportation around the 2 kilometer mixxed surface track. Last season it was the most attended round of the season with 17 drivers standing on grid - this year 18 drivers have qualified for season finale (1 point in standings requirement),hopefully most of them will join for exciting end of the season!
