After having a frustrating time racing against the computer AI cars I thought I'd take someones advice and join an online game. Stupid question probably but how do I do it? I've tried searching for available games and it came up with a list of 20 out of 450 games that I could join. Mostly as it was searching I was getting a 'wrong version' message but I'm running the latest! The information screen of games that you can join is also very non-intuitive and fairly incomprehensible.For instance in the info colum games are designated codes such as 'VQMP' or 'QMP' - beats me! what does that mean?

I was hoping to find someone running a Formula V8 race on the South city Long circuit and I did find one game but when I tried to join that it asked me for a host password. How do I get that, or does it mean 'sod off, this games private'

Also is there anyway of finding out what the status of a game is - I don't want to crash into a race with experienced racers and would prefer to join a race of similarly inexperienced newbies like me!

Sorry if this is coming across as a bit frustrated but that's what I am - LFS is a brilliant game but it does leave you in the dark about how to do a lot of things

Probably, you have a filter on.

Its either the one on the right for the cars (select all there) or the one on the bottom with the status of the servers (I'd recommend, you switch on everything except the empty servers).

You should get some more servers to join now.


Ehm...actually forget that, I only saw the part with the wrong version now. If you have a test patch between up to U18, this is normal IIRC.

hmmm, sounds like you have something wierd going wrong, what patch do you have? most people are using U, and S, T and U18-U20 work with it

depends, you have the option of typing a password in all games (so that you can log in as an admin), however if it is a password only server it will say "private" on the server list

You say you wanted to try that combo? the [MG] team server is running it right now (i just changed it), it's empty, but if you start racing, more will join, to join the server just type "[MG] Racing Team (iB)" in the "Join specific game" box and don't worry, theres no password, you could also find it on the server list, but with 450 odd servers without using filters it can be hard

yeap, it does, like the VQMS things, i can never remember what each bit stands for!

EDIT - and filters are the things at the bottom of the server list, i normally have public as yes (because i want to see them), full as no (well whats the point in seeing a full server?), empty at no (because i cant race if no-ones there!), and private to no (seeing as i usually dont have the password!)
