Better Automate gearing?
Right now we have derrible Auto-gearing. I understand it from S1, where we were driving to road-cars. Gut now we have formulas whit so SHIT gearbox.... Any suggestions?
Change gear manually, it's quicker.
Yeah, I mean unless you've only one usable arm I can't think of a serious excuse for using auto gears. DON'T BE LAZY!!
You know, here is one area where everyone hasn't cried about how the race cars should not be allowed to have auto tranny because it would be unrealistic. Which it would, I've never heard of any racing having an auto transmission. I can't think of a reason to use auto trans either, unless I'm using the pedals and the little one is on my lap steering and I can't reach the shifter. My 4 year old I've said before loves driving the S1 GTi (old S1) on the old computer. I have it set up as auto there, but then again, she is driving a road car that could be auto.

Hmm, can you still unlock the old S1? The new S2P doesn't run so hot on her computer. I think she is driving the S1 0.5H.

Im using Manual gear actually. This suggestion doesn`t help me, it help`s newbyes illepall
And Formula is using Auto Gearing.
Formula Renault (the FOX) and Formula 3000/GP2 (FO8) use manual or semi-automatic gearboxes, not automatic 'boxes.
Actually, there was one F1 car with some kind of automatic gearbox that whipped the other car's asses, but it got banned before it even got to race one time.... unlike the F1 with dual front tires and the f1 with the funky fan on the back ^^
I dunno... I wouldn't mind seeing or being able to make a set-up that used an auto trannie. One with a shift kit (automatic overdrive)

When I was growing up B&M shift kits were really popular because most of the cars had automatic transmissions. the only vehicles that had manual shifting were little cars and big trucks.

Could an autotrannie set up be made in LFS that could compete with a
manual trannie? if so, I'd imagine it would have to be very track specific.
Like you can use a manual set up for aston at S.city and do fairly ok with it. I think the effects of the gearing/corner mismatch would be way more noticealbe with an automatic though.
I DO think that the gearboxes in the Formula and GTR cars should be true semi-autos, meaning that you shouldn't have to lift to shift, TBH I was really expecting this the first time I drove one of the GTR cars, and was kinda dissapointed when I realized you still have to lift. Oh well, lifting to upshifting and blipping the throttle on downshifts is second nature to me, it actually feels weird when I don't have to.
Quote from mrodgers :........ I've never heard of any racing having an auto transmission.

it wasn't so many years ago that f1 had automatic transmitions for 1 or possibly 2 seasons. back when they realized they couldn't police all the computer aids and they legalized traction control, launch control, AND automatic transmitions.

i would love to see cars on LFS with fully auto boxes ie with kickdowns. No game i can recall ever has features this. I think it would be quite good for "Auto only races". I do use manual all the time, but would be quite fun to drive a car around, then put your foot down and rooooor, a sound of a engine screwing itself.

Please someone make a auto box with kickdown, or lets see a patch with it
Powerglide trannys are the shit

Im guessing Auto boxs with kickdowns??
they're real old chevy trannies
ah righty, like i said above, i would love to see a tranny with kickdowns, as no game i have come accorss has these, and was V disapointed when GT4 did not feature these, and hope LFS will do it ones day!
Of course, the current system is like a powerglide if you put it on auto clutch.
Alot of drag racers use racing spec, auto-gearboxes, but then thats cuz tehy're going in a straight line, why complain, autogearboxes in real life don't ahve good shifting points either....

No no no on auto tranny or "slush box" as they are normally called.

I think the problem here is that people think auto gear change means you have an auto tranny, you DONT. All the auto gears do in LFS is have the computer change gear for you using the MANUAL gearbox.

True auto gearboxes are BAD and I doubt that a true auto gearbox has been used in a race car because of the power you lose in them. Anyone that has driven an auto will know what I mean. You put your foot down you hear the engine make some noise and then the gearbox saps all the power.

Of course auto trannies wouldn't be as effective as a manual gearbox, but so what? It would be fun to have a simulated transmission like that. not just the computer changing gears, but the effects of hydraulic pressure being simulated to change the gearing.... like a 4 speed automatic.
Besides, have you ever experienced gridlock on the freeway? It's hell
with a standard (manual) trans.
