I agree. All this speculation about how much the devs earn leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It really isn't polite to do such things, and I don't see anyone else talking about how much they earn themselves.
I earn sweet F.A., just for the record But I work for the Red Cross so at least my conscience is clear
What was it Homer Simpson said about fame? "It's great! People know your name, but you don't know theirs!" Or this one about actors: "If they didn't want people pawing through their garbage and saying they're gay, they never should have tried to express themselves creatively!"
I don't think the fact that lots of people know the devs' names and have spoken to them through this forum gives them any right to discuss their private affairs like this. Scawen and Victor come to this forum quite a lot (much more than most other developers on other forums), are generous with their time and are happy to help people out or discuss things openly. I think we owe them the respect of leaving their private lives out of our own discussions
I don't like this money business much either, but even if I or another mod locked/binned the thread it's a recurring topic and pops up now again anyway.
Also figures being thrown around were probably too high, I admit I don't know for sure either but at least I've tried to be somewhat accurate, the point of it all being the devs are hardly living in luxury. Which is important to remember before more people start winging that S2 is still alpha and so on, and all the other you've-run-away-with-my-money-and-not-finished-my-game type rants.
If demo racers realise the guys making this are still grafting for the cash and it's not some big corporation that won't be thankful for the money, they may realise cracking really isn't the way forward and I wouldn't be about to ban another one of them.
If the devs don't like it (I suspect they only just tolerate it) they can edit away all the figures and tell us not to discuss it further.
I dont think theres any point or way in calculating how much they "might" have earned.
But its still interesting to know how many people "we are". Estimated guesses for Grand Prix Legends say around 40000 - 60000 have buyed the Sim. And that Sim was considered a failure financially as it could not live up to its expectations and quality. There are number of reasons for this in Grand Prix Legends... But hundreds of leagues came out and the Sim was constantly improved by the community because those who buyed it were committed to it for years.
It appears the Live for Speed community is just as big or close to as big as the Grand Prix Legends community was at about the end of 2000. Now I would consider LFS has more drivers than GPL. But GPL is also 8 years old.
Maybe GTR got the biggest driver Pool in all Racing Simulations at the moment
