I just downloaded this game a few days back and couldnt stay off this thing ever since. The physics is pretty close to rlf, suspension, inertia, force, even the tyres deform under pressure. The player can practically feel the grip on asphalt.
The physics is really good , just felt two other sides can be improved upon in s3, the visuals and the audio (sound engineering)
A few ideas- All objects should cast shadows -depending on the position of the sun, its intensity and clarity of sky. Darkening of shadows against brighter backgrounds -same way as aperture reduces in cams as car comes out of a shadow. Improved lighting and shading -better calculation. They make a lot of difference ,they make it more real and immersive ( " I think this is a performance vid from TopGear" , "I feel I could walk up to this car and get in, its real") -that would be the target.
Options for real reflections calculated in real time- that would eat up some speed-but for people with faster machines..
Inside the car, shadows that change when turning a corner, Shadows cast by roof, sides, on driver, just as in real races (cockpit cams). A bit further, tried in renderings -bounced light, e.g. bright sun on white uniform of driver, -interior, gear shift area illuminated -used radiosity.
The audio engineering -ppl have talked about it .
It CAN bring out an exceptional driving experience from a sim. I agree.
In future perhaps in ps3 or others-thick curls of white smoke from sides during skids or burnouts, spirals of dust from horrid crash - just as in rl F1.
Suggestions by other people: ignition -every details, gearshift animations -good ideas.
