and taking drugs is 'Stupid'...yet huge amounts of people end up doing it and enjoying it. Humans are funny creatures

Depends on the drugs, to be fair. And what you want out of life. For example I've never wanted to get married or have kids, and I work for myself, so I'm free to take a few lifestyle choices that most people my age probably couldn't (or shouldn't).

That said, I'm mellowing with age a bit, I don't take drugs any more and more often than not I regret drinking too. But if I was ten years younger I'd probably be happily stuffing my face with 'shrooms at every opportunity.
Quote from Scrabby :u could buy allot of licences with the smokemoney

That point made me think. Why use gum to give up smoking, why not just get stuck into sim racing? So if that makes people stop smoking, then wouldn't that make LFS a cure for cancer?

Absolutely...i wasn't implying that taking drugs is stupid...just that's the perception . Although I'm certainly not going to say drugs are good for you and everyone should rush out and try them. Like anything, if you abuse them you will more than likely pay for it.

I'm exactly the same as you in respect to never wanting marriage or kids, and chose a lifestyle that i wanted...i did what i wanted , when i wanted to.

I too have given it all up now...and drinking has worse after effects by the month.

Sim racing is about as close as i get to an addiction these days
So, Kev, you've posted to this bump, but didn't let us know how you were doing with it. I've recently thought of this thread and was wondering about you. How is it going? Hopefully you have good news for us.

Well, I've had to put my fag down to type.

I had a builder 'round today and we got talking about giving up smoking - something we're both trying to do. He's satisfied himself with cutting down a lot, but I'm not happy with that. I will give up for good before the public smoking ban comes into effect in July. It's also my birthday in July so there's another milestone I can use for motivation.

FTR: I managed about six weeks without smoking, I think. Can't remember why I started again, feel a bit of a sucker about it. It wasn't even that bad!

I've done this time and time again. For about 3 years i would quit smoking every 9 months or so but only for about 6 weeks at a time. I managed to pack in the fags last October and havent looked back since.

I stopped craving for a fag because the time was right for me! I'd been smoking dodgy (£17 for 200 marlboro lights) duty free for about 6 months and by the time i'd ran out of cheap cigs the price of a pack of 20 B&H had shot well past £5. There was no way i was gonna pay that much to feel like shit every morning, almost being sick when i brushed my teeth because of flem! nice! Everything i used to do revolved around smoking, even at work i would think to myself *right i'll do this then i'll have a fag* or *ill have a fag and then get back to work*.

Quit when the time is right! If you want a fag have one if you dont want a fag dont have one!

EDIT: yes i did pile on the pounds when i quit! (about 1 stone)
Ah, such a shame, but good luck to you Kev. I don't smoke, but I do "chew" smokeless tobacco or snuff or chew or dip or whatever it would be called around the world. I think I've posted that already in this thread a while back. I know what it's like, tobacco is tobacco no matter how you take it. I've had it in my head about quitting since well before you started this thread. But I haven't. I told myself I'll quit for my birthday. I didn't. It's still in my head to quit. I just have to do it.

So many others at work have quit smoking (or chewing). So many did good for a year and so many of those have started smoking again even after a year quitting. Good luck to you again. I hope you kick the habit for good when you're ready.

You're my best mate and all, but i did think you'd turned into a bit of a tubby lard arse a while back, and i didn't say owt
I suppose i was sure that Sam wouldn't have you getting fat and make you do something about it

I quit smoking some years back, i was only smoking 10 - 15 a day. I started when i was at school as most of us do, when it was "cool" to smoke, i'd say i smoked for about 6 or 7 years.
My Granddad died in 2003 from throat cancer, this got me thinking, and i quit because of it. I just stopped dead, no cutting back first, and suprisingly i didn't find it hard to do it.

Hehe, the words spoken by millions of now smoking people

Theres many thing that I refuse to do on principal, such as drink, smoke, drugs, ectera because they seem like a waste of money, and I know that I have a very addictive personality, exhibited by my 10 cups of coffee a day... :s

DON'T SMOKE, OR YOU WILL GET PREGNANT. AND DIE!
well lets say, smoking is bad like everything else, these day everything is cancer provoking, like Coke light they said it could cause cancer but does everyone stops drinking it no, do people stop smoking no, it's just your choice of living and I won't smoke , i smell like cigarettes cause almoust everyone in my enviremont does but they don't ask me u wanna smoke one? They just leave my alone cause they no i won't do it , and I go back in play LFS and be healthy!!
Where im from, marijauna is a far larger problem with teens then smoking a cigarette. Im sure most of you know already that canada almost has marijauna legalized. We are all taught here, "DONT SMOKE, YOU WILL DIE A SLOW PAINFUL DEATH, AND IT HURTS OTHERS AROUND YOU" for cigarettes, but when it comes to marijauna, we are just told, "Sure its fun, but its illegal (kind of) and will get you in trouble, you may have to pay a fine". I dont know about you, but i think that may sound sort of appealing to a 15 year old. My father had to stop smoking after having a heart attack, and now chews alot of the nicotine gum. He finds it really helpful just to have something to his mouth. Gum, candy, drink, food, ice cream, anything like that. I have a lot of friends that started to smoke whe they were drunk. "Its only one or two when im drunk, no big deal." Now they do it all of the time. I never really have been appealed to it, and never really wanted to try it. My grandfather stoped overnight, woke up and said im going to never smoke another one (after his open-heart surgery/Triple by-pass operation) and neve touched another one again. He smoked for over 50 years! He quit almost 10 years ago, and is now developing cancer. Just because you stop, doesn't mean you are not at a higher risk of getting cancer.

A lady at church also quit smoking for something like 7 years. She developed lung cancer which was told it was from smoking. She lasted 4 or 6 weeks after being diagnosed.
wake up!
I quit about 2½ weeks ago, I was pissed off and aggressive for a couple of days but that was pretty much it. From about 10 cigs a day to zero without nicotine patches or anything like that.

Congrats It's the best way to do it and it isn't as bed as people think.
Stick at it
I've never tried it, probably never will.

My dad used to smoke, but when I was born he just stopped. Without all of the patches and Gum. He just threw out his fags, and stopped.

My advice from him, is to find something fun you can do when you would normally smoke. So when the cravings hit, go for a walk or play LFS.

Good luck in giving up Kev, hope it works out.
Kev, think of LFS, every time you would be smoking, drive the LX6, and every time you do smoke, drive the FXO for an hour afterwards.

The ultimate punishment
