I was just wondering if i can use a steering wheel as a handbrake by putting a metal pole onto the steering wheel and turn it when i want the handbrake but i dont know if LFS Supports this or not?

Because in a couple of weeks im getting a G25 and wanted to use my old logitech driving force pro as a handbrake

Yeah like tape a bar to the wheel, leave it overhangin about 12 inches or so,put the wheel on its side beside seat need some resistance...maybe spring or elastic rubber or so so...

Cool but how will i make it so it dont full right down and stays in the nul position when its not in use like when im racing and i put the handbarke back into center and it fulls down say left and the handbarke comes on when it should activate when it goes right?

Use springs, stop-bars(anything you can find to 'stop' the 'bar' moving past where you want it), and stuff and things(elastic rubber)

You would only ruin the motors driving the FF.
The added leverage from the bar would be too much for FF.
Springs/elastic only...I'd say a real handbrake would be available from local auto dealers....say £15 for a punto handbrake.

what do you mean by resistance i am only 14 years old but i have my dad is helping me out and hes good at nearly everything except computers but computers are my strong point.
I have seen pics with the wheel attached to the seat but i dont know how to attach it , and i was thinking of making a pole for the handbrake to lean on when not used so it will stay in null position i am mainly making it all for drifting as i love drifting but i am only in the stages of planning my rig.

Do any of you know how to wire up a pc to use the speakers off a pioneer KV-DV model what has 5.1 surround with sub as i dont really fancy going out and buying logi speakers when i have hell of alot better system already.

If possible could someone make me a diagram of what to do to make the handbrake work and email it to [email protected]

Hell of alot better speakers than Logitech Z-5500's? I think not. I can't find any info on this KV-DV system so I can't really help out.

Don't always be so sceptical, Logitech's finest 5.1 system is going to pale into insignificance compared to a proper surround system. Admittedly that will cost 20 times as much, for value the Logi's are certainly a good deal. Just don't forget that your typical PC focused speaker set is definately the very bottom end of the audio market.

just put the center spring up to full. because no real ff will be fed through the wheel (urbs and crashes), i think the motors will be fine. and the handbrake will center on its own. i would opt for a joystick as a handbrake tho and sell the dfp

The steering wheel centers itself using a spring normally. Ages ago there was a site that showed you how to build a steering wheel and that was centered using bungee cords.

Resistance, to pull the handbrake back down.
Imo, if one where to use FF as resistance to simulate 'real' cable assembley resistance in handbrake systems it may very well last for a while untill one day a week I'd say the FF motors will burn out from all the pulling at them with a bar you've been doing.

but what i am saying if i disable the FF like not plugging it in so i dont use the FF because alot of the time i dont use it so what would happen if the motors burnt out would the wheel still be able to work as a handbrake or not

Without force feeback I don't think it'll return, you're best of getting a cheapo steering wheel and using that.

Force feedback is designed to reflect what the
front wheels on the car are doing
not the same as what a handbrake does,
which is much more simple.

And just to note: If you build and use[enable] force feedback,
you will more than likely ruin the wheel.

Use only a method like above to simulate 'real' handbrake cable-assembly resistance.

guys how much do you think it will cost to make a racing rig by building it off a wooden desk what i am build is basically half of the dashboard of the car with center part of the dash and the part where the steering wheel goes what i mean by the center is where the cd player goes heater controls and so on and the other part of the center where the gearstick and handbrake goes.

I was just having a look at wood for making a rig for the handbrake and that one i was thinking of doing making a frame and then boxing it in by using mdf sheets would this be a good idea the only thing i need to do now is to get my dad to allow me to do it lol.
I will post pics of the finish product if im aloud to build the rig.

i am thinking of using my old joystick as a handbrake instead of my steering wheel but i just put the joystick in to see what it is like and when it goes back to the center the handbrake is still half on i was just wondering what do i need to take out of the joystick so it dont go back to the center it falls right the way down by this i mean when i pull up on the stick and let go of it the stick will fall right down instead of going back to the center

How about this?

Three days ago I modified an old Madcatz Xbox steering wheel. I made a lever from MDF and mounted it where the steering wheel used to be. I think strengthed the springs on one side(the direction you pull) and replaced the other springs with wire so that I could limit the rang of motion in both directions. It isn't beautiful but it works like a charm. I have it set up on a footstool next to my chair.

As for the speaker thing, if this 14 year old kid has access to speakers that are better than my logitechs and will function better when connected to his computer, more power to him but I can't even find info on these speakers he mentioned. Believe me I know my Z-5500's are on the low end in the audio reproduction big picture but as far as functionality, looks, sound and reliability go I don't think they can be beat.

I will try to get some detailed pics of my handbrake setup ASAP. It was about a 3 hour project from idea to tweaking in LFS, definitely do-able by sam93 and his father.

hi there yes my speakers are better then logitechs one as it a top of the range dvd player with 5.1 surround sound but i dont know what plug it is to hitch the pc up with the subwoffer what is the main unit as everything is plugged into the sub and i need to know what plug it is so i can plug the plug into the pc and the pc sound will come through my surround because i dont want to go and buy logitech speakers for £100 when i have a dvd player with the surround what cost nearly £1000 And the surround speakers are for the dvd player as it was one big package
