The LAN Problem
Hi dear Community...

I've a question. A friend of mine (JamieB) bought a LFS Licence. Because I told her about a Race Of Champions Layout, we wanted to race it. But we two can't host a "Server" and noone on earth is racing it, so we decided to meet us, to drive in LAN.
Well we had set up the LAN, so we could start. As usual we drove one or two rounds on Blackwood GP in Demo Mode. It worked without any problems. Now we swiched to S2 Mode. But now, nothing happents. A window appeared: "Please use a vaild local IP adresse" (or something like that).
Btw: we took a cross-over CAT.5.
What did I (as host) / we (as S2 Racers) made wrong???

Please help, because I wanted to make a tournament in the next time with some friends. We' ll playing MotoGP 3 and LFS on PC, and we'll crash eachother while Racing Burnout 3 on PS2. We don't want to miss LFS!

The ip you used isn't a proper one - it should be in the 192.168 range

means we have to use a Router... well okey... but that's that easy to fix, I didn't think

thanks

But why are there these differences between Demo and S2 Multiplayer?????
Just to correct jakg:
LFS accepts LAN IPs according to RFC1918. That means:
  1. 10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255 (10/8)
  2. 172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 (172.16/12)
  3. 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255 (192.168/16)
Quote from TFalke55 :means we have to use a Router

It does?!!!!111oneoneonequestionmark

As for the differences and why, only Scawen knows.

But if you setup a local game instead of internet the VPN method would still work wouldnt it? Genuine question, I'm not saying that it would, just curious why it doesn't.

A local game (LAN game) would involve legitimate local area network IPs - per TAA's explanation - so yep, it's no problem playing on a LAN. You just need to configure your PCs to be on the same LAN subnet (10.x.x.x and 192.168.x.x being the most typical)
I give it a bump 'cos I cant find it elsewhere - does LAN has any limits on number of PCs hosted by LFS server (apart from start grid limit)?
