Pitspotter Mod!!! Search here in the forum. I don't remember where it is. As soon as another car's front bumper breaks plane with your rear bumper, the spotter lets you know. I've found it very accurate and recommend that everyone on LFS is using it. Use your mirrors to see them coming up behind you. When they disappear from view, you know they might be making a pass attempt. When they start the attempt and start to get beside you, your spotter tells you until he is clear. Can't get any simpler than that. You can't miss someone telling you "Car right. Car right. Still there. Still out there. Clear."
i stopped using the pitspotter.. i got to used to it, and gave up using mirrors.. it was a baaaaaad sight at times
that would be kinda messy.. i mean as small as the map is, im pretty sure you would KNOW they are there.. lol even if they did have different colors when overlapping.. it would be almost the whole box
its kinda a good idea.. but i dont think it would work.. usefully
I think the boxes should just have an outline that uses an alpha technique. So the lead car would have the box on top, and the car behind it (or next to it) would appear beneath it. If the car behind passes, it gets switched. I think this would be nice.
I run at 1024x768 and the dots on the map are so small, if there are 3 cars running very close, you can't tell as it just looks like a single dot. If the dots were drawn as the examples here, I'd still wouldn't be able to see it.
The only useful mirror is the center mirror. They all show the same image. The sides aren't showing anything different. The mirror shows someone following behind and when you see him disappear, you know a passing attempt may be made. Then the pitspotter kicks in when the pass is started and lets you know he's there. I use the center virtual mirror, pitspotter, and instant look left/right. The pitspotter works because you then don't have to check the side view to see where he is while midcorner causing you to dip into the grass or something because you weren't looking ahead while turning. I want more people to use the pitspotter so we can go into turns 2 wide more safely without someone backing out or pushing the other off the track. People could hold their lines and give room better without having to take their eyes off the road ahead and we'll have better racing.
Anyone using the map overview as a way of 'seeing' what traffic is around them during a race needs to seriously rethink their racing skills, I think. Mirrors, sound and awareness - thats what you should be using. Relying on the mini map for this is a recipe for pile ups.
