120° fov, cockpit view, 20" 2007WFP 16:10 LCD, 1680x1050. I'm not sure how people are driving with lower than 90° fov; it's kind of dizzying for me with a low fov. Back when I was using a 4:3 CRT, I was even using 105° fov. Frankly, I wonder why it's not possible to up the max fox to over 120° in-game.
At 120 degrees the image is beginning to fish eye really badly, that's why you wouldn't want to go any higher.
It's all a matter of personal preference though, I don't like going even as high as 100 as all the corners look nearly straight and everything looks horribly warped (IMO, of course).
Well, it's obvious now that the way certain FOV's look has everything to do with number of displays being used, screensize, and resolution format (ie, 4:3 or widescreen). I had never thought of the display setting/size factor. Because to me, anything above 70 just looks horribly fisheyed. Yet, Bob states that "at 120 degrees the image is beginning to fish eye really badly". At default 90 degrees, it is just way too stretched out on the sides that I wouldn't say it "begins" to fisheye at 120. Not only that, but I feel like I'm sitting in the back seat at default 90 or above.
I use 120 on three Screens
I change the FOV for each car so that when not moving the outer edge of the side mirror just touches the side of the screen.

It makes it obvious that lower FOVs look more natural but if we used "real" figures we'd have no peripheral vision what-so-ever. Obviously compromise is needed.

Also that program doesn't take borders into account, or angling of the screens (which you shouldn't do anyway because the 3D engine assumes your display is flat).

also, when you'r concentring on screens, brain tend to ""erase"" useless information, equal you can use larger fov. This is more obvious when playing in dark condition

I wear glasses, and there is the same thing happening when i use contact lenses or glasses when i swith from glasses to contact lenses, everything seems bigger because my eyes can use larger vision when my brain didnt change interpretation of my eyes. With glasses i cant us the whole 180° angle eye vision, a whole part of the blured vision is erased by the brain.

You mean that isn't normal??!?!?

Playing regularly in a dark Room will damage your eyes in the long Run.

No, this was a myth put around in the 40s and 50s by lamp manufacturers. Apparently there is no evidence to support this claim, but it's so widely 'known' that it's considered fact by people that should know better

They still do warn from these in Japan, there is warning text in beginning of movies about this

I experience very tired eyes when playing in the dark for a long time, there are also some examples of enthusiastic Flight Simmers who cannot get past real Flight Medical Tests due to damaged eyes after years of starring at the Screen. When the screen(s) are the only lightsource in the room it is stressful for the eyes, maybe not for everyone but for some people it is.
60 here...
I have to agree with George, I always play with the light on. Staring into the only light source does stress the eyes, as does working in very poor lighting conditions (we guess that's why my Dad's eyesight is so poor after years of working at night by torchlight).
usually 80-85 here
90 at most, I adjust it normally so that I can see the side mirrors on the car.
I find 99 is the best balance between vision/fisheye and lets me see the Saubers mirrors (just ).
Anything above 90 (4:3) I find to have too much distortion, I usually like it around 70 or so, but that depends on which car I'm driving. Running Tin-Tops I prefer a smaller field of view, and a larger one for the single-seaters.

So, varying by car, I tend to run in the 70-90 range.

Why the hell You all use such a big FOV?

With low the game looks slower= More time to think, easyer to drive, haha

At 90 all the stuff looks quite stretched to me
