With the latest X-5s, off-road ability is no longer THAT terrible of an issue (improved 4WD and TC systems). The real limits to the X-5s off-road performance are lack of clearance, tavel, low range and most crucially, unsuitable tires.
X-5 sized all-terrain tires are available these days thanks to cooper tires (for most OEM sizes last time I checked), which has done a good job of minimizing the tire issue. However, clearance and suspension travel issues remain. And those plastic bits sticking off the bumpers of the 4.8i model don't help either.
But seriously, it's still better than a CR-V and RAV4 since it has enough torque to not get bogged in sticky mud even with no low range. It's full time AWD is still much superior to the reactive systems of the current soft-roaders. As long as you remember to swap to all-terrain tires, you shouldn't have too many problems with gravel, sand and some mud.
Oh, here's one A/T tire for the X5 from general tire:
I want a XF V8 SWAP! descrption: 7800cc V8 SHOVED into the xfgti engine bay RWd FAT REAR TIRES 6SPD 590 HP AT 5600rpm 789TQ At 3400-6888rpm 0-60 in 4.6 secodns 0-100 in 7.8 sec 2790LBS Ultimate XF
GTR VERSION :smaller 5.0 v8 1200hp 1001TQ 0-60 2.5sec DOWNFORCE
Competiter to FZ84R
Get the RA, give it an integrated roof, ground effect, a rear wing, 315/30/18 rear tires, 235/40/18 fronts and give it a twin parrallel turbo 3.8L V6 that makes 550hp. Weight is 1050kg empty, 40/60 F/R mass distribution.
It'll fill the gapping hole that's in the current lineup of LFS cars: The mid-engined rear drive supercar (e.g. Ferrari Enzo, McLaren F1, etc).
Whilst I don't like your suggestion much (the RA is the RA and doesn't need to be altered) I baulk mostly at the silly tyres (talk about overtyred), silly wheel sizes (18" is too much for ANY road car), the rear wing (for nancy boys), the turbo (also for nancy boys), the weight (no sportscar should EVER weight more than a tonne fully laden).
The rest, what is left of it, is okay, but as you stated it it's just another girls car like the Enzo, and would be no fun in a sim or real life. Yes, that's right, I just said an Enzo wouldn't be fun, and it's true
If we want supercars in LFS it needs to be something like this.
1) Front-mid engined (Like the Lister Storm) RWD one with an NA V12
2) MR, NA V12. (Like the McLaren F1)
3) Mid engine, 4 wheel driver, smaller but forced induction engine (Like the Bugatti EB110)
This option actually offers us the most interesting choice. If we get a mid-engined 600hp 3.0L V6 parallel twin turbo car with 4WD, we could end up using the same chassis for both rallying and on-road supercar applications. The rally version would be LFS's equivalent of group B car whereas the road car would be the supercar. Both will fill 2 gaping holes in LFS's current car lineup.
I'd really like to see a car similar to the 1932 Ford Coupe in there. The natural one would be a competitor to the UF1 and there could be a supercharged GTR version as well. Very high centre of gravity would make cornering interesting too
Not only that, but skinning a proper old school hot rod would be great
Considering lots of people can't (or won't) even drive the FZ50 I don't know how it is that we need a Zonda. People have enough trouble keeping an MRT pointing the right way at SO Classic sometimes
However, I sure wouldn't complain about a Zonda in LFS (regardless of how unlikely it is). The old netKar namie has one and it's awesome to drive, so I've had practice. It's perfect for Monza, but damn - you gotta be careful with it around Lime Rock
Supercars differ from normal sportscar in one major thing. The 1st priority is always power, anything else coming secondary. With normal sportscars you can have quite pleasent ride, sufficent power and good handling. But a normal sportscar won't scare you to death when you press the loud pedal little too deep
As for which supercar from hyperactive's list I would choose:
1. Lamborghini Murcielago
2. Ferrari F50
3. Maserati MC12
4. Ferrari 360 CS
5. Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR
and some of my own:
6. McLaren F1 GTR Longtail
7. Jaguar XJ220 (the original design aka V12 4WD monster, not the diappointing production model)
8. Saleen S7 twin turbo
9. Ford GT90 (the 720hp 5 speed prototype that looks like NASA's work)
10. Ferrari 430
+1 for Dauer 962 and Koenig c62
I think that a group c car (not road gr.c like this ones) would be a very interesting add on, expecially in WE... less in FE club...
