The links at http://www.liveforspeed.net/?page=links are not plain html, they are embedded in some php-script thus not being recognized as backlinks by google. Backlinks, ie inbound links from sites with a high(er) pagerank (in this case 5) will help to increase the rank of the pages they link. Ultimately resulting more hits for the linked websites.
