I notice the carname_default.jpg files in the skins folder and was using them as painting templates, but they are 512x512 - are there any 1024x1024 versions kicking about? (preferablyy FO8 and FOX)

just resize them 200 percent and do what you want over the top.

OR, you could just download the CMX Viewer that comes with 1024 sized plain skins, and violla!!!

Those templates are great for 1024x1024 at RSC. Or for even bigger and more detail, you can join Master Skinnerz (http://skinnerz.proboards26.com/index.cgi) where you can find some FANTASTIC 2048x2048 templates for most of the cars. Not all of them are done yet, but Master Skinnerz is an awesome forum of many folks here with beautiful examples of skins and great helpful people.
