I am! You should try commentating next to someone who lives and breaths STCC so much that she knows all the points, events, liveries, names, driver occupations, history, rules, track names (she put them in), lap times, driver comments etc all on the top of her head.
I know it's my own fault for not learning as much, but then I'm sure Becky wouldn't spend as much time on STCC if there was a quicker way.
Hey, great coverage! I really prefer watching these races rather than driving , especially now when the broadcast quality has improved so much.
Becky and Tristan, you are once again succeeded
because he was bitching about the quali system - adding the right amount of fuel he might of recovered, but being pissed off made the whole reaction start
Yes and no, his quali was very sub par to begin with and he was going to be midpack at best for quali. The system did hand him a harsh grid start but it wasn't overly bad, his qualify was simply poor and was close to where he belonged
Yeah he could have pulled off a decent finish if he kept his head on strait.
But dealing with stress and high pressure environments is the name of the game, and he bombed it miserably. A very poor race from this awesome driver. Yes he was dealt with a fairly unfair hand, but that doesn't mean you have to lose your cool.
Well, i'd say he just had a bad day. Anyway there are a few points above I want to address
Firstly thank you all for the kind comments.
Regarding dropped frames, i've just ordered a processor upgrade, it's the fastest I can go without a new motherboard so I hope it is enough, in the worst case scenario it should at least make dropped frames/shoppyness less frequent. I'd like to record at half speed but I desperately need replay rewinding (and then some special software development) before I can do this, otherwise I have to record 12+ full length races at half speed.
Regarding the 'bathroom' echo. My PC is in my conservatory, at the moment there really isn't anything I can do about the acoustics of the room sadly . If possible I will try to record with the garage and kitchen doors open so the sound doesnt reverberate as much - but if the kids are home this isnt an option - else you'd be moaning about the sound of screaming, violence, and cartoons in the background!
Ok this will sound COMPLETELY daft, but if you record with a sheet/duvet like a tent over your noggin/mic you'll get perfect sound... poor mans studio... very common trick though for voice over talent who can't make it in.
hehe point taken ... but even considering this you seem a little intimidated by her enthusiasm
remember what she said about the tone of voice you both have? the one that sounds like youre going to slice your wrists any second? its a lot more prominent in your vioce than hers
so in terms of voice id expect you to be the one calmly punching out statistics and becky to go all out commentating the actual race (which she does great if shes in the mood) ... yet its somewhat the other way round
misterx on the chat (no idea what his lfsw name is) is currently working on an app that might be able to make all of your recording problems magically go away
you should log on some time and talk to him to see if he can put in a few features you might need
basically what hes currently doing/planning to do is recording user camera movements at full speed and then replaying the whole thing frame by frame with the previously recoded shift-u movements at up to 100 fps ... in other words youd be able to record at any resolution no matter how ridiculously high youd like on an old pc without increasing the time youd spent in front of the pc (itd be inuseable for quite a while but without you having to do anything about it)
either try what robster said or build yourself a ghetto non reverberation studio by hangin some bedsheets everywhere
I could write the software in an afternoon Shotglass, but whilst LFS cannot rewind replays it makes no odds as recording the right parts becomes impossible.
EDIT: For clarity I dont mean I could write misterx's software in an afternoon. I mean I could write the software necessary for me. I dont need much, but without rewinding INSIM doesnt give the functionality I need to edit within LFS.
why would you need to rewind? if i caught misterxs drift all you have to do is save the insim time code and the camera movement and then run the replay again from the start
I could mimic the mouse movements easily, but putting in the right mouse movements needs rewinding so that I can edit as I go along. Otherwise all I have is the ability to replay the same camera recording - which I may aswell record live.
not quite
as i said earlier with insim you can go frame by frame ... wait till its rendered record it and go to the next frame
this way you can get a high res 32 bit recording of the race without having to sit through it at half speed
so youll get rid of a lot of problems like the choppiness or the obvious 16 bit recording without investing in new hardware
The increase in production time doing that would be absolutely enourmous. I have in mind a way of reducing editing times aswell as improving visual quality, rather than recording the camera movements of 12-16 cameras then recording at low speed, albiet unattended. This isn't a deadend without rewinding though, there is another way - there always is, I just hadn't acted before because I was under the distinct impression that "replay rewinding is compatable, i'll do that in the next text patch"...
sure but so would the increase in production quality be ... and like you said that time would not be spent working (or actually it would be spent at work while your pc does whatever it has to do)
the ability to record at very high resolutions at 100 fps to include motion blur would up the ante a lot
but hey it was just a suggestion to save some money on hardware and you seem to have found another way of increasing the quality so ... meh
Boy, these broadcast just get better and better...my wife also watched the action! She really liked to hear and see a woman involved in, and I quote her, "such a boys game."
Becky, with your recording gear, are you able to fiddle with compression? Radio uses alot of compression to really make a persons voice stand out, to sound stentorian, so to say.
erm, jack and pickard both qualified SLOWER than me and they was very high up the grid...
you know yourself when you get a good driver in each of the cars, this dominent rubbish is thrown out of the window because one mistake could cost you a place. (granted the rb4 was slow onthe straight)
when i am in heat 2a behind all the rb4's and xrt's because i was fast enough to get in there in the first place i get peanalised for getting a slowish lap.. not alot i can do when im in the middle of rb4's and xrt's.. but because jack and pickard got thrown into heat 2b they were with the slower drivers (no offence guys )so they had an 1 lap of overtaking and then the rest of the laps to hotlap a nice laptime.
so once finished and have a faster laptime than me they are placed infront of me who was faster in the initial qual (hence why i was fast enough to get in heat2a in the first place).. i dont think thats very fair.. thats why becky has introduced that the person that wins heat 2b would end up being placed BEHIND the last person from heat 2a regardless of laptimes.
It might sound like im bitching alot but a couple well actually alot of the drivers saw the issue at hand but they tend to keep there opinions to themselves unlike me who is blunt in nature and likes to keep things fair a possible.
I know i shouldnt of blown my cool, but its quite easy for ppl who are not in the stcc to say that, there is alot of tension and nerves going on b4 a race, and alot of things are going through your mind and with the added stress of the qual system.
i do appologising for acting the way i did, and i will try keep my cool in future, but lets face it.. its not gunna be very exciting without all this excitement for you to watch.
Awsome vid as always but i spotted an little mistake in nationality flags.. in the race position listings during the race it gives T.Liigman an Dutch flag, in onboard shots an Finnish flag and in the end result an Estonian flag..
