I just had a look at the list of longest-standing WRs. Interesting, but it seems more like an illustration of the frenzy that must have possessed hotlappers after the last reset of WRs.

What might stimulate hotlapping is a list of least-contested WRs. If you ordered the WRs by, say, the relative difference among the top-5, then you could get an idea which WR has still room for improvement. (Especially if you're a non-alien.)

There are many easy WRs and it is quite easy to spot them as well. Being second(s) slower than the reversed track time usually means that there is lot air in that time. Just look around
