Hmm, sure about that Ian? The last couple of days I've seen nothing but posting from you whether it's in the morning, afternoon, evening, or late at night! Yea, you sure do seem to get lots of work done...
hehehe
That of course was only a joke (my disclaimer)
Me? Night owl on the weekends. It's still during the week, so off to bed I go....
Thankfully things haven't got to the stage of "I have to plug this thing in!? " but being a web designer / sysadmin as long as I maintain my servers well enough to start with, they tend to almost run themselves (to an extent) and the other side being web design, can often mean waiting for a client's response so I get more "free time"
This week's nice and quiet, but sometimes it's 16-18 hour days so swings and roundabouts.. but I love my job and it's worked well for the past 5 years without a complaint.. so even happier
And on that note, I do have some code to write....................
lol look its this simple !! like the demo, buy the game. if you dont then fine
the devs made it that way and thats up to them, ppl should really get of there high horses.
in my view the devs made a great game 10/10 and that makes me happy and thats all that counts
I won't blame you for not knowing much about computers, but this "security" concept can be circumvented/cracked within a few minutes.
You'd need a damn good and foolproof way to secure this temporary S2 license, which means quite a lot of work for Scawen to get something like this running, which means a lot of time wasted to give more to people who didn't pay for the game in the first place.
I know plenty about computers, and realise that it would be easy to circumvent. yeah it kinda was a stupid idea, but hell i was tired so it was my coffee speaking
Temporary S2 license would be dead easy, just add an expiry date to LFSW.
The problem is that it would give an incorrect impression as to the content depth of the game. I still find new things even now and i've had this sim for about a year.
I also dont see what's wrong with the demo, and I dont understand many forum goers when they say the demo should have less.
People will always be tight fisted. There will always be more demo racers than licenced. The only way you'll get around it is to paint the cars red and make LFS compulsory in China.
And how do you identify individual racers? By email? By IP? By name?? How do you distinguish between someone who has just downloaded the demo and someone that reinstalled it?
Well, it wouldn't mean they have a real S2 license, but just temporary access to S2 content on demo servers. Or something.
You clearly don't understand half of what was said.
You continue to lobby for more content, and pretend that it is for the good of LFS, to "boost sales"
If you wanna boost the sales, then;
GO BUY S2!!
You said you raced in real life, so fork up the 36 euro's, it must be peanuts for you. Then you get all the content you want.
If demo racers aren't teased enough allready by one of the most generous game demo's there is, then that racer is an ungreatfull whiner and I dont want them in S2 at all. Enough whining going on as it is allready.... but hey, that's just my opinion.
I hate it when people jump up and say nothing but "buy S2" when a demo racer makes a thread and asks an honest question.
But for you I make an exception.
and yes, I am being slightly sarcastic, but only slightly...
It's certainly not the first time this topic, with these suggestions, has come up.
I'd imagine if you spoke with any demo racer, they'd come under three categories:
* Just found LFS, having a play, deciding if/how much they like it
* Have been playing for a long time and can't wait to buy a license as soon as money permits
* Have been playing for a long time but are arrogant little kids who won't pay and try to get all they can for free - a minority of these end up cracking the game (and possibly getting a virus)
In the first case, more teasing of S2 is unlikely to make a difference to them purchasing, and certainly not the other two cases.
I know, more's the pity. Sometimes it can be very hard to find a new, original topic around these forums, especially lately.
I agree with you about those general demo user categories. That third category is spoiled rotten (leaving aside those with real financial trouble etc) - I can't think of any other demos that have leagues and teams on the same scale. Blows my mind actually - how can you not get bored of the same track and the same three cars? Since S2 alpha's release I've barely driven the three demo cars at all, and Blackwood hardly ever gets a run when I play LFS. UF1000 ftw - it's worth 24 quid all by itself
heh.. ironically, my favourite combination is the XRT at BL1
The XRT has a great deal of character IMO and I prefer stock cars (road going, not oval racers) to the likes of the GTR cars and BL1 has that classic "cheap club" feel, which again I'm particularly partial to. I think the only other track I can say I actually enjoy is Westhill
Not once a month, If any have it like Day Of Defeat Source has and for 1 or 2 days after a major patch (like from the patch S/T to patch U). I'm in no way supporting this, but once a month is way too frequent for a free drive for people. If the Devs got drunk enough to implement this, then I feel to have it after a major patch would be the way to go.
Ian, I can dig it. The XRT is indeed a great car, but maybe I just drove it too much, starting way back with the S1 demo These days I love the UF, the FWD GTRs and the LXs - I think I prefer the LX4 to the LX6 too (I even like the XRG still, especially at the RallyX tracks). But BL1 - dude, over it. Maybe I've been squeezed into the wall/dirt/another car too many times at that first frickin' chicane, maybe I've been nailed from behind too many times at that last left up the hill before the pit straight, I dunno, but I just avoid it - lots of other great tracks around. Westhill, for instance - perfect in an LX or UF/XFR
I guess I just like slow(ish) cars that can turn - I just spent the weekend going between Adelaide and the Adelaide Hills where I grew up and learned to drive (bestest, twistiest roads anywhere) in a rented 3-door Hyundai Getz and had awesome fun! It was suprisingly gutless for a 1.6L (going up hills was torture - the UF could beat it), but it changed direction rather smartly, had brilliant brakes (it needed them) and dealt with my abuse with gentle good humour
We recently got a thread about someone having a virus/trojan in a file called "LFS Keygen.exe" (or something like that), and it's really not that uncommon that cracks are infested. Wait... did you just indirectly admit to using a LFS crack?
You should realize that trojans for these types of "fake" programs are rarely detected by virus scanners even if they are up to date. So, if you think you don't have a virus or trojan after using "LFS keygen.exe" or whatever, you might want to take a closer look at your system...
I think it's time to pack up and go. So much for the "friend's house" tale. It's little wonder people around here think that's the most commonly given excuse by crackers. IT IS!
