No Clutch for shifts?
I searched for this but couldnt find anything so, Why do you HAVE to use the clutch for shifting, aside from letting the rpms drop. In RL you can shift your gears without the clutch, it will grind and eventually ruin your tranny or clutch. I have the G25 and i can just put the shifter in 2nd when in 1st and stay in first gear until i hit the clutch. I think the gear should change when the shifter is moved, not when the clutch is pressed. Much more realistic, and probably useful when you really need those few thousandths of a second. This would be best implemented when lfs has an upgraded cluth model, with damage and such.
Do you know how to properly clutchless shift? What happens in LFS is completely realistic. Why would your gear engage everytime you move the gear lever?

Negatory, compadre.

But you can't tell your computer you're being gentle, so you'll probably always jack it up.
I think I heard Bob or Al say it was very hard to rev match in LFS (no clutch.shifter here, so senquential with auto blips is my only good option), which you would have to do to execute a PROPER clutchless shift. The gears would engage IRL (or try to anyway) if you just jammed the stick in without any clutch or revs. So I think he's trying to say that even if you wanted to rev match and shift without a clutch, you can't in LFS.
That's about it. LFS currently supports clutchless shifting, but it needs a lot of precision and you can't do 'dirty' shifts where you just ram the shifter to a gear. But since LFS doesn't have gearbox damage and there are no forces acting against the shifting action, so it was probably intentionally left this way for now.

Yeah. The majority of my shifts (downshifts at least) are clutchless, but that's cheating because LFS just puts it in neutral when you shift and puts it in gear for you at exactly the right moment. That ain't right!
Maybe it gets implemented in the next incompatible patch, or at least, I hope it will.

If it realistic, try clutchless down and up-shifting like this in LFS

Well, except for the fact that LFS holds it in neutral for you. But I don't have a shifter, so I need LFS to hold it in neutral for me anyway lol
*crunch of gearbox*
*pitapatter of gearbox oil leaking from your mangled piece of metal*
