Right, i'm around my friends and were trying to play MTA:VC together, but on his comp (a compaq laptop) wont let him run the exe file. BUT, he said to me its happened manny times before and its very annoying.
He's on XP pro if that helps and its in the admin account.
This isn't trying to open it using a shortcut? (if so check the file exists and the open in destination is correct)
Open the properties of the program and try changing the different settings (like read only, I'm sure there's a funny one that might be the issue). Otherwise possibly check for firewalls/spyware.
That is a restricted account. i had the same issue once where i couldn't access any porgrams but remembered i had locked my account accidently from my sisters account, so yeaa that might answer your question
That's not a restricted account, he already said it's an admin account. Although, better double-check to be sure :P
Have you tried a re-start? Sometimes I have an issue where I can't download a file to a folder because windows suddenly thinks the folder is 'write protected' or something. A second try usually fixes it; or failing that, a reboot.
Countless re-boots haven't fixed it. Also, the file's that dont run, don't show their icon. :/
It's like, MTA has a red quare with 8-Ball on it, but the MTAClient.exe (the main executable) hasn't got it. Also, all the other executables that don't run, dont have icons neither.
We've checked his account and its definatly not a limted account. Also compared it to the computer im on and theirs nothing different. (and yeah, its not a read-only file and stuff like that)
One thing we haven't tried is making a new Admin account and logging into that and see if the file will run there. But still, we dont want another account, we want it to work on this one.
Could Compaq have done something? He said the laptop in question has never been formatted... So could a default Compaq program or something be stopping these random files?
Right click on the .exe and then click Properties.
You should see the below box pop up, where the red box is (see attachment) it should say "This content is blocked" or something and under "Advanced" there should be a button that says "Unblock" click it.
of course it didn't show up. that's something new for vista.
found this in the installation instructions...
from looking at the screenshoot in the first post, it looks like MTA was not installed in the same directory as GTA san adreas. re-install it in the correct directory.
