How to put rims in renders
Well im looking around and i see some renders that have diff wheels on them. How do u put rims on renders?
#2 - Davo
Find or make some wheels you like. Then simply use the import function in your program to import them into the scene and set them up appropriately.
thanx for the help.i have another question.how do u turn the wheel and where can i find some custom made wheels?
dont ask me ^^
grrr ok well i tried that importing thing and it didnt work.I got the rim i wanted but when i click on file->import it said improper file or somethin like taht
try using "merge"

its under the file menu too

if that doesn't work because of wrong file type, then clearly it wasn't made for 3dsmax in mind

Well done, and with that insight you have another post....

Theres a few wheels and objects here: http://www.mg-motorsports.net/

Also have a look at the object library at turbosquid.com - most of it costs miney, but there is also a lot of free stuff.

You could also just learn how to model..
ok.thanx for the tip.Im still having problems with rendering tho.I found the rim i wanted but i still dont know how to import it into the render.is there any tut that will tell u how to put rims in a render?

edit:Also how do u put 2 cars in the same render?Sorry for my n00b questions

you click on file->merge->select the file that contains the wheels. If that doesn't work it's not a file for 3DS Max or it's for a different version.
Don't use import, but merge like XCNuse already said.

To merge two cars, save a copy of the scene, and use the same merge feature to load the copy into the scene.

Quote from ImportFantasy :well the rim file is a targa file and i found it at http://www.aironeracing.com/.What should the rim files be?

a tga file is just a 2D picture, you can't use that on LFS cars as they use 3D wheels. Unless you would make your own wheel and use a texture for the center, which would be useless and...ugly.
Files that you would be able to merge would have to be 3DS. Files that you can import are 3DS files.

edit: Just had a quick look on that site, there's .max files in the downloads. Use that and only merge the wheels.
i found the .max files but do i merge the entire model?because idk how to merge only the rims

edit:nvm i got it

edit: ok now im stuck.Ive merged the rim but wut do i do next? Also how do u turn the wheel?
When you go into merge, it will ask you what all you want to merge, just highlight the wheels you want, and then it will automatically merge them and their material.
edit post
Use the rotate tool.
err this is goin to take longer than i thought lol.ok this is wut i have done so far

1.I have render my car

2.merged my wheels

3.wuts next?
i dont see the rims on anywhere.

EDIT!!!!I got it now but now the rims are hella small. How do i make them bigger?
Use the resize tool...

Pretty much everything you're asking is easily searchable on google.
ok just one more question. How do u take the old rim off and put the new one on?
RTFM!

You should really try to find stuff out by yourself, you will learn much more and better from it. At least try to get an understanding of the interface and tools. If you don't know how to resize or move objects you really should find out that first otherwise you will keep asking EVERYTHING here step by step.
mods: I believe this post should get pinned on this board and become an FAQ for newcomers in rendering
