I drive with socks on (and sometimes my trousers as well lol) can't wear shoes at all, got no feeling on the pedals, maybe if i had a G25 i would wear my shoes but eh
"important" races i do without socks. normal pick-up racing i do with socks.
I race naked.
Slippers, I always wear them in my house, throughout the entire year. Racing with just socks is fine too, but I don't take off my slippers just for racing ;P
Socks. Im always running around without shoes when Im at home anyway.

I wonder what everyone uses in their real cars. The only time I've ever driven with shoes on was when I took my driving test. I only wear thongs/slaps/flip-flops (take your pick) or vans slip-on sneakers, so it's practical for me. Socks are very consistent, grip-wise; bare feet can get sweaty and slip off most pedals. Fortunately, socks still allow me to put the pedals between my toes for ultimate fine control and feel of the vibrations.

I liken driving with shoes on your feet to driving with your elbows on the wheel and shifting with shoes on your hands--at least in relative terms of control. You wouldn't care so much about smoothness when racing though, nevertheless, I don't see how it would hurt going barefoot/sockfoot (unless of course you're scared of your feet getting niki lauda'd).
A pair of special racing slippers that are just about falling apart with wear...gonna have to get down to M&S soon to get a replacement pair...

Driving with thin soled shoes is best, I've got a pair of Lonsdale style shoes which have a thin sole and a high rubber back on the heel. Most of the advantages of racing footwear without looking like a total *insert expletives* who wears racing boots anywhere other than a in a race car nor do they look like driving shoes that instantly say flat cap and leather helmets.

TBH I've never tried racing shoes. It is no stretch of the imagination to think they would be very nice. One of the issues I have with shoes while driving is the heel. I need to feel my heel snug up against the floor. I can't imagine how some women drive with high heels...

:simsox: word.
