LFSW: A page-load timeout occurred [fixed]
I've done a search for this error message but couldn't find anything describing this exactly:

Whenever I go to LFSWorld, leave the tab open in the background and continue browsing on other pages(on other tabs of course) I get this error after about 30 seconds or so.

Browser:
Opera 9.20 (it occurs since ver. 9.00)

On the other posts regarding the error message in the topic title I've found references to firefox, so perhaps it has something to do with the way both Opera and Firefox handle tabs?
No idea. It only happens when in an inactive tab? If so, then that sounds more like a (javascript-related) bug in Opera.
I tried it in firefox (in a background tab) and no problem occurred.
Just to verify whether or not it only ocurred in inactive tabs, I tried it again.
Turns out it also happens in active tabs.

I've timed it, and it happens exactly 75 seconds after the page is fully loaded (with the home page open). After I've clicked OK on the notification it takes another 60 seconds for a new page-load timeout notification, then another 60 seconds and so on.
Any updates on this?

Especially because of the curious timings...
No, I don't really know why you get the timeouts.

The timings are logical though. If a javascript request isn't replied to within 15 seconds, you get the timeout message. And the background poller is done every minute by default. So the first timeout after 75 seconds is 15 + 60 and the others every 60 seconds.

Sometimes I get this 'timeout'. After clicking OK, the page loads where I wanted to go. Opera 8.x, no tabs.
Opera 9.5 is due in a couple of weeks, there will be some JS changes as well, I'll keep you updated on the problem..
The simplest of fact is that you change to Internet Explorer.
I don't want this topic to turn into a 'Use Browser X! / Browser Y Sucks!' topic
So could a moderator please remove this and the above post?

LFSWorld works on Opera, it merely gives the error message on a certain interval..
do you have any errors showing in the error console? (of lfsworld, related to these timeouts)

try opening lfsworld, then open the error console, clear it, sit back and see if any errors pop up.
I also get lots of time out error too. I'm using safari for mac. I get the error about 30 seconds. on any page.
Apart from some CSS bugs, nothing...
for the sake of it, can you try to upgrade to 9.21? I just did as well (from 9.00) and it all works fine here.

are you using opera with default settings, or have you changed any preferences related to content loading / handling?
oh, now i get it too.
try these :

Scenario 1) open chatterbox, sit back and see if an error occurs
Scenario 2) close all windows, sit back and see it an error occurs
I got it to work here now. I hope it works for you as well.

you may need to reload lfsworld with a ctrl-f5 once, to reload all javascript.
scenario 1 went fine (around 17.00 GMT)
scenario 2 gave me the page-load timeout

Will check in about an hour or so when I'm back at a computer with Opera...
Turned out to be a bit longer than an hour,

but hey; it works just fine now!
No more page-load timeouts.

(any glimpse into what was wrong perhaps, Victor?)
opera is determined to cache every page request that uses one and the same url. It won't even send a cached request to the server - it grabs it straight from cache. So if you're loading a page with the same url every minute, Opera will just not do any of the requests after the first one. This confused lfsw.
The solution i used is to add something random to every request-url, so that they all look different to opera and it won't use the cache.
Opera's caching isn't great. Even after having set "check if page is updated on server" to "always" it fails to update some pages.
So it seems.

Well thanks for all your troubles and I'm glad we made lfsworld a bit better for everyone (using Opera internet browser ;-) )
