Start at the back of the grid. If you can't, let them all ovetake you, then follow the guy in front of you. Watch him as he is more often the slowest.
When you find he is holding you back, overtake and catch up with the next guy. He's going faster than the back marker so, hang onto him and watch what he's doing.

This way you can become progressively faster.

I often go to the back and then see how many I can overtake before the end of the race.
Quote from dadge :it's better to go too slow round a corner (and learn to build up to the propper apex speed) than it is to go too fast and crash off. drive slow on purpose at first and build up to a proper pace. after about 30 mins to 1 hour later you will be maybe 1 second a lap slower (maybe less) than the leaders and that's when the real fun starts.

HAH yah right! Maybe if you have tens of thousands of miles already in LFS after 1 hour of practice you will get within 1 second... But it takes quite a bit more than that for a new person ;-)
Austin,

First of all answer if you have ever played a simulator instead of an arcade racing game.

If you have never done this before, be prepared to find another experience.

Keep in mind that you have to drive like you'd do in real life.

How old are you? Have you driven a real car already?

Cause if you have no experience with real cars, or simulators, you'll find hard to get used in the firsts days.

Do what people here has suggested: watch replays from the others and try to be smooth. Don't push too hard any control, pedals, wheel, shifter.

You can get very fast with RACE-S setups that come with the game. And don't change those setups. Create new ones if want to test any change.

Be online on the servers, and ask for help. There is always people who will stop playing to help you. Always.

It is just a case of get used. Don't worry, don't give up and sooner than you think you'll be on the way.

Don't try to be so fast as the others in track, in the begin. Just try to stay on the track and do not to disturb the other drivers.

And when you get back to S2, go to servers with less people. You'll have less chance to disturb someone, and more chance to be helped.

Post your thoughts and let us know how is going your improvement.

Patience, only that will help, rushing makes one only to crash, so stay calm, wait for right moment and remember you can't go 100% when racing with others or you will crash.

Quote :"QFT", internet slang meaning "quoted for truth". This term applies on forums and posting boards where users can edit their posts, thus the QFT holds the poster to their original statement. It is also used to express agreement with a previous poster's statement and validate its veracity. Other variations include "quoted for truthiness" and "quite ****ing true".

Had to look that up, me n00b

And have you ever played a real simulator before? I mean, GPL, Nascar 2003, GTR 1 or 2, rFactor, GTL, LFS or Netkar?

I guess point is that it is game where you need to drive more like in simulator than like in arcade game such as NFS...
LFS online racing can be quite intimidating for those who just got their license, so it´s best to do a little offline-training and then search for a low-crowded server with a combo you like, full grids will cause too much pressure on you
And don´t be to ambitious, practice and patience are the key

I´m licenced for about 2 months now, my first month was anything but encouraging but then the fun starts, because you´ll be able to compete with others and get less stress, or at least get used to it

edit: You should use automatic shift until you get used to the driving, seems like you are not able to brake, steer and shift at the same time
And dont turn your wheel like mad, try not to make the fronttires squeek, you wont get the corner any better with full lock

You most likely want to get too many things done at once... Spread it out: First, position your car for the turn, then brake in a straight line... Once you slowed down enough, turn in... In the beginning, get on the throttle again only at turn exit (smoothly!)...

Practice that for some time... I know, you won't be winning races when you focus on these processes, but neither will you when crashing out every turn, no? You'll see, with time you'll get better and this whole procedure gets one smooth action you do without actually thinking about it...
Austin if you need another unlock to get S2 content unlocked, and you dont want to wait another 26 days, you could always ask very nicley here

I dont understand how you managed to unlock just S1 content when you are S2 licenced I think you have just have demo access? Maybe you have more than 1 install, I would recomend getting the latest full version but I see you have X already

If you do get unlocked you are welcome to pop into any of the T7R servers and Im sure if you ask, someone will send you some setups and give you some track tips
