Socket A lockup fix :-)

It's really more a workaround than a fix but it works.

It looks like some recentish windoze update may be the issue as I've done the following and the problems gone.

New partition / disk whatever.

Clean install of XPSP2. ( NO UPDATES )

Omega 16693 (?) Nvidia drivers

Audigy basic driver set.

Logitech 4.6.

Clean LFS install ( copy setups & skins )

2 days testing and no problems.

Seems to work ( 4 me anyway )

AMD XP 2600 O/C 3200
1 Gig Ram
FX5950 Leadtek
haha, go home, we clearly ruled graphics driver problems out...
fine if it does work for you, but i assume the problem will return.

regards
Um, I don't think I mentioned graphics drivers - idiot

Try reading what I wrote...............

I said I think it's a Windoze update ( post SP2 ) and doing a clean XP SP2 install with no Windoze updates seems to get rid of the problem.

If anyone else is truly disturbed they are welcome to test which one it is, my guess is something within the last 3 months but I don't care enough to find out myself.

I'm happy with dual-booting.

If anyone wants to test this it may fix your socket A stutter problem.
As long as someone post a way to fix something that may be a problem I think we should be thankfull Tho I don`t have use for it I`m sure somebody else may have use for this.
Thanks for sharing the knowlege

take a look again, you mentioned them.

OK ..............

Just to clarify -

Yes I use graphics & sound drivers - they make the cards work.

I'm using identical drivers on both my updated ( Win updates ) and my SP2 windoze builds.

This gives consistency in testing.

The SP2 system is yet to lock, the updated system locks up with 1/2 an hour of starting.

Not conclusive but worth a try.

There are no changes to Bios or Video card O/Cing.

That would actually make sence, seeing I'm one of the people with a should-be affected system, and all I've installed is SP2...
I do sometimes make sense.

So we now have 2 basic SP2 systems working.

Any more ??
I've had my basic SP2 system working from the beginning, I'm now in Vista, but ran S2 in XP SP2 Basic for ages.
