Can someone explain to me, in layman's terms, what InSim is/does?

I have searched the forums, but I only see numerous posts/ threads that mention certain aspects regarding InSim. I might have missed a post that explained it, but searching "InSim" in the forums brings up search results of "1 of 25 of 500" pages regarding the topic. I know I can narrow the search, but that's still a lot of readin'...and I'm from Texas and we don't read much...LOL. Just kidding. Seriously, I'm really not clear what it is.

The manual didn't tell me much. Just tutorials explaining how to connect to InSim. Part of the problem is that I'm not what many would call "computer savvy". I am just wondering if it deals with options within the simulation or if it is for online hosting. I've been playing LFS a lot more lately and I just don't want to miss out on anything cool.

I figure I'm about to get really embarrassed when realize the answer to my question was quite obvious. :doh:

It allows you to write stand-alone programs which can exchange data with LFS. InSim sends out data such as car position information and game state information which is received by you program and can then be acted upon.

In turn you can also send data back to the game, instructing it to carry out certain commands or requesting for information to be sent.

Unless you are a computer programmer you don't really need to know what InSim is or how to use it, but it does allow for some really cool applications, such as the CTRA servers and stuff like that.
