Upgrading to an iqon ?!
Hello everyone

as you may or may not know my rig is rather old , all its parts are from when the p4 was invented :S ( apart from a new graphics card a year ago )

its a solid machine thats never broke down .

But recently ive seen as advert with a iqon 3800 p4 deul core , though id love a quad core i think this pc Might be worth using till quad cares are cheap :S

the basic secs from the thing is

3800+ mhz ( which could be over clocked )
120 gb hardrive ( not really needed cause this current pc will be a memory card when i get a new one )

graphics card is fairly good

and it all adds up to 699 euro

only thing is , has anyone owned an iqon , if so are they any good , do they break like dells or are they indestructible like gateways ??

any Good advice would be helpful

£471...?!?!

Thats overpriced to HELL.

For £471 you might just pick up a Quad Core and a pretty crappy GFX card or a nice Dual core and a fairly nice Gaming PC!
Does it need to be fully built? Or just the main parts? like these:

Processor
Motherboard
RAM
Graphics
Hard drive

From an eBay auction selling one of these, it has:
The Home computer on a budget, built for the ease of upgrading and the ability for games, multimedia and internet. Comes with a stylish midicase, 17" Monitor, Keyboard, 3 Button Opticial Mouse and Windows XP Home Edition.

ASROCK K8NF6G-VSTA SKT 754 Motherboard
AMD Sampron 64 BIT 2800+ Processer
512MB DDR400 RAM
Maxtor ATA133 80Gb 7200rpm Hard Disk Drive with 2Mb Cache
Floppy Drive and DVD Re-Writer
400W ATX MIDI CASE
Pre-installed Windows XP Home Addition

Also includes a 17" Flatscreen Monitor, keyboard and mouse.

I just wish i could sell a PC for £500 that spec, i'd be laughing all the way to 8800 Ulta's :P

Thats a buy-it-now, and it's on a dead socket (to be fair 939 is too, but 754 was a bad idea at the time, now it's like that dodgy girlfriend you try to forget about!). I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole unless it was £170 or less, and thats only because of the screen.

Let me see what i can spec...
#7 - Jakg
CPU - Intel E2160 - 1.8 GHz - Core 2 Duo Based - £54.31
Mobo - Asus P5B P965 - £65.30
Monitor - Xerox XM3-19W 19" Widescreen - £110.45
RAM - Corsair 2 GB (2x 1 GB) PC6400/DDR800 CL5 - £70.99
GFX - HIS x1950 Pro 256 MB PCI-e - £89.99
HDD - Seagate ST3320620AS 320G ... 0RPM 16MB Cache - £49.55
Case - Casecom Black Mid Tower Case - £17.99
Fans - 80 MM Akasa Amber, 120 MM Akasa Amber - Always worth getting quiet fans imo.
Optical Drives - NEC Optiarc DVD-RW Drive - £16.82
PSU - Antec SmartPower II 500W Modular PSU - £29.99

That fairly 1337 PC comes in at £499.18 with free postage. Add £7.09 and it will be at your door in 3 days.

You might wish to get cheaper Value Memory, a different Monitor (HannsG?) a different GFX card (8600GTS/7900GS), a better case (or a different one - cases are like Marmite).

I'm so good i suprise myself sometimes :P
yeah but lads do them pc's come with vista premium ?? ( not that its needed , everyoen has the hacked & cracked version )

besides from that gay o.s this pc , for ireland , is really cheap... to build a half decent quad core your speaking 1200-1400 base ( thanks to the prices in the irish cpu stores )

plus if i was gonna do anythin when building id be taking this plextor px =/- and putting it in the new machiner cause it put me back a pretty penny but theres no better dvd re-writer on the market here

oh and just to let you guys know , besides from certin games , ireland is about 2 years behind everyone else

To be fair, your making the custom build more expensive by asking for stuff like that - Vista Home Premium is £63 for the 32-Bit, £67 for the 64-Bit, so you'd have to cut a few corners somewhere.
Quote from The General Lee :the Ultra is shite btw

It's really not, for most people it's in no means "value for money" but it overclocks higher than GTX and makes less heat - it IS a better card, and if i had a gazillion Quid i'd have a couple.

Of course, i'm happy with my PC (t3h Quadz0r!) but the fecking this DOESN'T WORK! GRRRRRR!

but yeah, you would be far better going for something like jakg's system with a cheap copy of XP atm, but XP is imo.
#16 - Jakg
Vista's growing on me atm, IF you've got enough RAM to run it (2 GB) and an Intel CPU (seems to run a lot better on Intel for some reason)

I haven't the slightest idea what your rambling on about

Are you trying to say if you have an illegal copy of XP it's infected with rootkits and trojans?
If that's what your saying then i stand by my original statement

Thanks for the flaming banana though, I've never had one of those before

np mate anyway, yeah, certain copys are designed to leave your system wide open to individuals. If you don't know anything about windows security and rootkits i'd suggest you do some googling and refrain from making silly statements about things you know nothing about.

Tell ya what; install an OS my friend sends you(pm me)and you'll see arrogance and ignorance will see you dead in two seconds flat in the world of systems security.

Yeah its very easy to install backdoors into XP, and dont even try and tell me to google what rootkits are, ive got a pretty fair idea.

But, for anybody with half a brain that would, basically, have the expertise to pirate windows, and do it correctly, they wouldnt go get a copy of XP from some half ass virus filled russian site.

Stop with the "Oh look im cool my friend can give you a rootkitted copy of windows", it really doesnt give you a good reputation.

Well, I was just abit annoyed when Moose said I was talking bullshit. Who the hell downloads cracked software from webservers anymore anyway

...I also can't see why you feel I am damaging my reputation here. All I said was don't use copyed or cracked softwares from the internet/ I was then accused of talking bull...so to further my point I told him I could show him???
Quote from CSU1 :Tell ya what; install an OS my friend sends you(pm me)and you'll see arrogance and ignorance will see you dead in two seconds flat in the world of systems security.

Ahh...thats different, of course arrogance and ignorance will see you fubar'ed in no time at all.

Your 'friend' is obviously ignorant and arrogant. Maybe you should have imparted your wisdom on him instead.

There are people on the other hand who have non legit copy's of XP on their machines who are neither arrogant nor ignorant, and have never had a security issue in their lives.

Don't get all high and mighty about security and rootkits with me. I'm well aware thanks, which is why have had 1 virus in 6 years, and that was entirely my own fault.

Your talking a good game, but coming across like a Daily Mail reader.
Before you accuse people of knowing nothing, you may want to brush up on your facts and stop making ill informed sweeping statements.

Your original statement is bullshit. Fact.

EDIT. Really sorry to the OP for dragging this off topic.

pffff! Whateva!

i did miss the fact that people here were'nt downloading shite copy's.ok.

System Commands...? The first thing i HAD to do was to disable "User Account Control" (UAC) in the User Account section, simply because it wanted conformation for _EVERYTHING_ i did, sure, great for an uber-n00b, but when i've built up 3 GB of small apps to install on Vista (Temp monitor, Office, Skype, TS etc) it was just too anoying
#25 - CSU1
ahh, there tis, spank you very much kind sir

so now one more thing, what the hell am i supposed todo with the fifty or so games sitting in that drawer? i've spent lotsa moneys on em' and even windows games wont work with vista?
