Can demo drive join the race?

Don't be sad

Demo drivers get more out of LFS than any other game I've come across. Many have been playing it for years.

Buy yourself a licence and join the biggest racing community on the planet. Hundreds of servers and racing 24/7.

The CTRA servers are the best public racing servers in the known universe

Good point, since the universe is 0% populated.

Demo racers can't join the CTRA and enjoy the CTRA-X System because we only run S1 and S2 servers. We need to do this as we tie your CTRA license and stats to your LFS username. There's no way to make sure that someone else doesn't use/corrupt your stats in the demo, or to penalise drivers effectively.

We've met the demo users halfway by running servers using the S1 content, making it half-price! We can't do any more. Buying an S2 LFS license will give you chance to use all the servers - if you're up to the standard.
I just had a thought about how we could distinguish between demo players.

When they join, send a big IS_BTN giving them a unique passcode. and then, a box to enter their email address.

Every time that a demo player has to join the race, then they have to put their email and passcode in. Maybe not have the passcode as a IS_BTN, but have it sent in the email verification.

I am thinking about doing this for LTC. Dunno though!
I don't know, Race1 is usually pretty full as it is. I wouldn't like to see it packed with demo racers, since a good lot of them probably are not really serious about racing and would possibly ruin the race experience for others.
I am unconvinced that I should ask all the server admins to deal with demo racers who have a far greater percentage of casual players than in the S2 community.
There's also the question of whether the demo racers deserve such a high quality server system. IMO they already have enough.

Not to sound mean or tight or anything but while Becky and I are committing hundreds upon hundreds of hours to build and support the CTRA, I'm happy to do so for people who have committed to the LFS racing sim. I don't have any interest in ploughing additional hours into an environment which is definititively non-committal. Racers who are dedicated LFSers are not demo licenced, they're S2-licenced. Dedication to LFS at the very least amounts to £24-worth of licence.

I couldnt say it better as that .
That should be quoted back at any Demo racer asking for more, from now on
