Quote from DeadWolfBones :Seems like you have a pretty level head, are a nice guy, and most importantly aren't some flaky forum n00b who's going to join and leave 20 teams before his first year in LFS is up.

Like everyone else has said, you just need to get out there and race a bunch with guys from established teams, make a good impression, and make friends. Take your time and find people you really like to race with--people who you get respect from and who you have respect for--and THEN (and only then) float the subject of recruitment. You're gonna do fine.

And if I can make one pointed suggestion... don't join up with fly-by-night forum teams. It's a bad experience for everyone and it sounds from your posts like you're above that.

thats exactly what ive been trying to do, but it hasnt worked out better then this
Your team seem like a nice bunch - I raced Dru and der Butz and Mikey in a few league races earlier this year and ran a lot of practice laps with them prior to races. I think you made a good choice.

I don't do the whole voice chat thing though. I already know how freakish many of you look, I don't think I want to know how freakish you sound.

Each to their own, I was just making the point that not being in a team is ideal for some people. Especially sociopathic people.

Are you saying i look like a freak? Moooooooose

Heh, i agree, being in a team isn't for everyone, but i think some people that don't think they want to be in a team would be surprised how their attitude changed once they were in a team. I do think you miss out on a huge social aspect sat there all on yer lonesome.

@kekkart I totally agree with what DWB says. Don't bother jumping straight into any old team. I suggest just doing your thing, getting to know some of the guys your racing against regularly. You will soon get to know members of established teams that you get on with and things have a habit of making a natural progression.
If you are a good, clean, fair racer that regularly races LFS then most good teams will see that and approach you.
Good luck, I'm sure you will find a good match

I am in a team, too. I agree with Kev. This whole voice chat thing is not much for me. I rather concentrate on driving clean and fair instead of listening some crackling voices all the time. But our team is still close together, some like it more being on voice chat, some less. Firstly the 24 hour race this year where we participated with 2 teams brought us closer together and we realised what a great bunch of guys are in the team. Last week we had our first team meeting for our german based members. 6 of our total 14 members attended and it was nice to see that each one is great guy and not a single one where i would say "omg who is that?"
Its really great being in a team where there are people you do get good along with!
Maybe it helped over the time that we picked our memberws pretty wisely and had to say to a lot guys who applied that they'll probably not fit to good to our team. We have a guideline with information about us and how we see our team which everyone who applies should have read first.

We really dont want our team splitting up because of new members rushing in all the time. While being a part of the community over 2 years now, I have seen a lot teams growing up and going down. Especially here in the "teams" subforum. Member hopping where people had like 3 teams in 1 month. Or teams going down, re-estabblished after 1 week and closing down again after 2 more weeks. Often its really a fun to read. There was even a thread with a guideline how to start up a team ( i think it was by battle) which was supposed to help newcomers to form their teams.

What i really like about our team, we are really active, have a nice floating, helpul forum discussion going on with people agreeing and disagreeing, but each one respecting the opinion of the other, on our team forum, its really community like, although we are only 14 members.

I'm sure the offers will come

My nose ain't quite that big, my photographer was looking for an 'arty' shot

What's wrong with my attitude? And if I wanted to meet people I'd go outside.

Actually ... disregard that question.

lol. What is this 'outside' you speak of?

Quote from thisnameistaken :I usually manage to find people I know online, but I'm not and have never been in a team. I don't feel like I'm missing out on any social aspects of LFS, tbh.

Not being in a team means you've got no demands made of your time, no silly political squabbles to deal with, no team skin you're obliged to wear, no group you feel compelled to side with if there's a handbag duel going on, etc. Being single is good.

I wear a skin because i'm actually proud to be in UKCT, i'm happy they'll have me! I get to spend most of the day mooching around in teamspeak with people i'd like to consider "friends" and we all have a lot of fun - i don't have to side with them, i'm still "Jakg" i just belong to a community of friends called "UKCT"

He hides the Moose accent rather well tbh, he almost sounded human.
Hiya m8, as everyone here as said, take your time before joining a team to make sure it fits you and vice versa. It can bring lots of benefits...

Keep a look out for my team members, sonicrealmsracing. You will see their tag - [SR] name. Get to know them on the race track and i'm sure they will be happy to help you out with anything you need. If you are still interested after gettting to know them then feel free to check out our website www.sonicrealmsracing.co.uk and make a post that you are looking for a team.

Good luck in finding the right team for you

[SR] Turkey

p.s. The core of our team consists of 3 brothers and two mates I've known for 20 years

Quote from The Moose :
I really didn't want to join a team in LFS, i was quite happy being an unsociable git and just saying the odd "Hello" to the guys i raced against regularly.
Then ZWR (well, Dru really ) started pestering me. After a couple of months i couldn't take it any longer and i agreed to join them just to shut him up. That was the best thing i ever did.

See Children, good things come to those who pester

i pestered and i got a Moose

I see ZWR as a little bit of an extension of the family, we are a collective group of people who enjoy each others company.

We spend an un-healthy amount of time together online, and not just racing, therefore it is critical for team mates to be considered friends as well as race mates etc etc.

There is the social side of being in a team and the racing side of course.

When racing we only use voice comms to warn other team mates about accidents or race incidences, however its a great tool for improving your driving and talking to each other about each others racing techniques etc. where you are losing time, and gaining etc etc in practice sessions and setup and qualifying, not to mention the MoE events and such like.

I don't understand the current trend of people joinning a different team every other day, if you are serious about being in a team, you need to get to know them, see if they are right for you, see if you are right for the team. This process CAN take a long time.

Our latest 2 recruits in Moose and Swiss_Tony were previously teamless prior to joining ZWR. We needed to heavily convince them that team racing was a benefit over single stand alone raing and then, when we had managed that, it was them convincing them that ZWR MAY be suitable team for them and that they should get to know us and us them before commiting to a relationship, and i use that word in the strongest most positive sense.

Like many people have mentioned, being part of a team means you represent them EVERYwhere. Online racing, public pickup, Leagues, Forums etc etc, your conduct should always reflect well on the team, and i would like to hope that all ZWR members do such a job.

You say you are not the quickest... I'm not the quickest, in fact i'm fairly slow compared to many others. I'm just a good learner, have a strong group of team mates that all help one another to raise their game to the next level.

If you are serious about being in a team, then i wish you luck finding the right one, but don't run brfoe you can alk, get to noe people and teams first, think about what a particular team can benefit from having you as one of its members and also how you can benefit from being in that team.

My advise, don't ever join a team for the sake of having a particular name and a particular skin. Join one that you are 100% comfortable with, with the people and the type of racing they do prior to joining them. This way you will not be disappointed and will only ever reap the benfits of team racing.

Sorry to bore you all, turned out to be a bit of an epic.....

Heres a post i made that sums up a few things:
Quote from Jakg :LOL - Don't worry, with Sam on the team NO-ONE is too slow :P

Call me sad, but i really do worry about the state of teams in LFS - when i first started i was a BIG n00b (with autogears, brake help etc ), and i joined MG - i had some good racing there but i never actually talked that much to any of the team members and it got to a point where i was only actually in it for the skins and i'd got to a point where i felt i was fast enough to apply to another team (but i couldn't be bothered, those MG skins rocked!). Thanks to the STCC i met UKCT (well, i met Sam (and Tristan, Kev, Karl etc) before on a certain "UKCT Beginners" server, but he wrecked me :P) via TeamSpeak and realised what a cracking bunch of guys they are (well, Mike, Sam, John, Dan, Dustin, Gizmo, Ade, Nick & the 26 Chris's - Dave sucks ), and i spent 10x more time talking to them than i ever did with MG - i left MG due to actions by other members, and that put me in the UKCT TeamSpeak server with no team - they asked if i wanted in and i jumped at the chance. Sure, MG (or DR as they are now) will probably get in more leagues than UKCT will (UKCT motto - "Great Team, Crap Drivers"), but i don't care, i have a whale of a time.

The point of my crazy ramblings? from my experience the teams with the people you think are a great bunch of guys (+ 1 LFS'ing girl ) is a LOT more fun that the MG (just using them as an example here) style team where the onus is on leagues etc. The whole idea of the so-called "Forum Teams" which start, recruit and break up withing a month or so is just rediculous imo though.

Do you REALLY have to be in a team that badly? if your not in it for the friends (which your blatenently not seeing as the amount of team swapping your doing) then what the hell are you in it for? if you want to become a high profile LFS'er, joining a team to compete in leagues may be one way to do it, but first you need above ordinary skill...

Sorry for the crazy ravings of Jakg, it's just this whole team thing is just rediculous atm - everyone HAS to be in a team, and if no-one will let them in they just make their own - just what LFS needs...

Mr "RacerHero" - LFSn00b got a bad reputation for continually team swapping (although now he's cleaned up his act, team wise at least...) and thats all that you will get if your going to do the same, because imo from here it looks like you want to move up the "LFS Social Ladder" and become one of the well respected names in LFS (aka the drivers from Ocrana (SK now), Mercury etc). If i'm wrong then sorry, these are just the words of a caffeine hyped, internet deprived, overly tired (yay, 4 hours of sleep last night!) forum whore.

Off Topic now - i was checking your stats (out of interest) and was quite suprised to find out that we've done a VERY similare milage (as i post, i've got just 69 more under my belt), yet when i compare my times vs yours, you've got very little amount of times on most tracks - where the hell did you rack up that mileage?!

You might want to think about reading this thread before joining a so called "Forum Team"
What's a "so called forum team"?

Anyway, I see your fast on club I'm sure you will see plenty of my teammates online....
I'm sure you will always be welcome in Moo.Racing

You get my vote, especially because you made me have a laughing fit for about 15 minutes on a drunk Moo Night

Good luck with SR

and SR good luck with [SR]Kristján

Bit quick to join a team to be honest, i would always recommend a 'trial' before a genuine join, as its always good to make sure you and the team fully know each other... but either way... congratulations

OH BTW, stay away as far as you can from the principality
Good luck both [SR] and Kristján!

SR are a great team and Kristján is a great guy...a great match

Just call me Tony the Tiger...
Good luck, man!

I agree Kev, only stupid people are in teams.

Realistically, It's more about what kind of team you join. If its you and a group of friends, then it works out well, and you can do stuff outside of LFS, like play BF2, or get together for a party in real life. If it's you and a bunch of random guys that are like "ZOMG! LETS MAKE A TEAM! WANNA JOIN!" to every single person they see, it's gonna turn out crap with nobody wanting to continue with the team, and it dies in minutes, like most forum teams here.
Jakg's quoted post of himself really sum's it up to be honest. One thing I would add though it everyone is different so one person might get on with a team one might not. Taking MG as the example as jakg did, I got on really well with james, kimi and kasper and resonably well with others which meant I enjoyed MG while jakg didn't. I know run DR with james and kasper doesn't play lfs anymore but I still catch up with him on msn when he is around. People you know from lfs (or anyother online game) I would say you can become friends with them, never to the point of people you go to the pub with for example.

Congratulations on joining SR
Quote from dawesdust_12 :I agree Kev, only stupid people are in teams.

are you calling me stupid??? lol
anyway...I think being in a team is personal...if u are not person to race for the next level of sim racing then there is nothing we could do to persuate otherwise. I personally think being in a team has helped me alot. and besides it's good to know u belong somewhere, u have friends with who u have same aims and u'll always know they "catch u if u fall" ...hehe. it's like one big happy family
