I'm trying to drag a folder from my documents folder onto my desktop and Vista is determined to stop me doing it no matter what I try. I've already turned the user accounts control thing off.

Why socket 939 and those processors are very rare and so very expensive. You'd be going from one outdated socket to another.

You'd be best going to the AM2 socket instead.
tht would mean getting a whole new build everything would have to change

id get

AM2 AMD 5200+ x2 (mabe a phenom but would change for intel quad)
crossfire mobo / AMD 790FX Chipset
ATI Radeon™ HD 3800 Series x2
Ballistix™ High-Performance Memory (poss DDR3)
and WD raptors (obviously)

but the idea is to keep cost to under £100 and get a good pc out
getting 939 would allow me NF3 chipset (i know NF7 is commin out )
untill i deem Vista as ready im not gonna spend out for X10

ty m8
only reply ive had all day

AM3 is out soon might look into tht
A socket 939 AMD 4800+ will set you back around £150, on a good day and the only place you can get them is ebay.

And for that price you could get a new AM2 CPU and motherboard as well as 2gig of RAM, not the greatest of parts but it would do the job and leave you room to upgrade the CPU later on.

I have 939 at the moment (AMD 4200+) but I've switched sides and I'm waiting for my Intel parts to arrive.
this is true i could upgrade now with lesser parts then later upgrade again

what you new build like ?

ps... What controler to get to ive posted a thread in the hardwear section take a look i you could

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=35378

ty
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750
Gigabyte S775 Intel P35 Express (GA P35C DS3R)
Corsair Memory TWIN2X2048-6400 2x1GB

The only part I think you'd have to cut back on, price wise, for a £150 upgrade would be the motherboard, £35-40 instead of say £60-70.

This is a pretty good AMD bundle - http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.aspx?sku=321080

Quote from harjun :whoa, that is very good...200 for Q6600...4Gb and P5N!

£200?

It's not good at all, I think you'll find it's £299.99, plus VAT, plus delivery.

£299.99
£52.50 (VAT)
£14.95 (Delivery)
TOTAL = £382.39

And if you price it up on dabs, for example, you can get the exact same parts for much cheaper, £315.41 at your door. Always check the prices elsewhere when you use ebay.
Quote from ajp71 :That bundle isn't amazing value and your buying from an unknown company, it's actually £10 cheaper on their website. A quick check on OC reveals that that bundle would be the same price, so without checking I'd assume ebuyer or aria would be cheaper and don't result in you buying from some random company nobodies heard of.

It's about £70 cheaper to buy it from dabs, check my post above yours.....
hia again yer im not gonna get tht bundle i was using it as a example lol

when i buy the components ill get it trade price from "Scan"

just wondering to go intel or stay amd

as the quad intel is better than the quad AMD well the 6000+ is better than the phenom

or do i w8 for AM3 and NF9

Intel
ATM Intel Quads are MUCH better than the Phenoms. Intel are really "on the ball" atm with their CPU's, AMD just can't compete.

as much as it hurts me to admit it.. intel are currently storming ahead... A shame the phenoms really are not anywhere near as good as i was hoping / expecting.
yup though i hate to admit it intel's Quad out performs AMD's

so im goin intel ohhh god now i gotta get all those sheets on wht mobo actully works with a quad and wht ram has good reviews

and its pay day + xmass bonus so this week sould be a £300 er

new build might be on the way

ty guys
£300 will buy you a Q6600 G0 CPU (£160), leaving you with a P5K-E (£90), and 2 GB of DDR800 RAM.

I really like the ideas of Phenom (and Spider etc), but it's all just talk, none of it is actually any good!
motherboard would definately be Asus P5K, if your not going SLI, but if you are, find the Asus 680i SLI board.
What are you after in a motherboard...? If you wont be overclock at all you can get a £70 P35 board with RAID from Gigabyte.
well i dina wana spend out to much money but i just got me crimbo pay so its vvv tempting to go buy a whloe new pc

ok its gotta run crysis on x10

so id need sli or crossfire i prefer crossfire
at least 4gb of ram space on mobo
AM3 mabe
intel quad more likely 775lga
huge power supply
the mobo needs a onborad diog or D bracket
sata
usb 2.0 /2.5
nf 7 min
ati chipset prefer
