And if you buy a VX you're buying the cheap copy. My brother and the guy who owned the factory I used to race for both have Lotus Elise's so I do have a clue as to my 'opinion' too - which as a non-owner isn't biased as I dont need to convince myself I made a good purchasing choice.
Please dont get me wrong, I have said that I think the VX is a lovely car and that I would love to have one, so dont get misunderstand me. I just think that anyone who thinks its a Lotus Plus Plus with Extra Wow & Quality is a bit, um, lovestruck.
i think i might of not explained propperly, i do not think its a Lotus with abit more.. WOW as you put it,
its a different car, both with pro's and con's
what you have to look at is the VX the N/a is the worst VX you can buy.. if you compare that with a elise of the same age, with general use the elise most times will come out as the worst in terms of its condition.
if you look at the best of both, the VXR220 and the Exige S. they are about the same. one has a turbo the other supercharged..
dont get me wrong tho, 147bhp from a 2.2 engine is very bad.
but why pay £3000 to £5000 more for a car that is almost the same in every respect??
you tell me what it is that lotus have got that deserve you to pay and extra 3k?
Somebodies in Denial then. Just because Vauxhall has had engines in Caterhams doesn't mean you can suggest the Vauxhall is a Vauxhall Elise.
Even if it was. The Lotus badge ALONE has more presige, a VX220 is just dire, if you are going to get a Vauxhall get an old school Chevette with wide boy arches on. Thats the thing about Vauxhalls, even FORD fans have more pride than Vauxhall followers. The only old Vauxhall you have ever heard of is the Dis-Astra GTE. Or maybe you don't follow Vauxhalls, maybe your just a fool who skips from Manufacturer to Manufacturer. I am a Volkswagen fan through and through, that will never change. It shows my true passion whereas with you its like supporting Genk because you think its Gent, and you only want to support Gent, because you glory hunt but you got it wrong anyway.
"and you know when you sit in it that you are sitting in a car where the person who made it did not give a shit about comfort,"
is this why the elise comes with air conditioing, electric windows, interior carpets, central locking
the vx doesnt have those things bar central locking which was only added when the turbo came out.
obviously, silly me, if your bro and the owner owned one, they must be the best out of the two... tut..
Blue flame, you do realise that they do actaually share the same chassis? and 99% of parts that were made for the elise fit on the VX aswell, for example the racing ali radiator thats on my car, is made for the Elise, yet for some strange reason its IDENTICAL the the replacement radiator that was there?
just to let you know tho, i do love VW... MK2 Golf.. yummy!
I appreciate it's a relatively minor point compared to who built it and where and what their attitude towards the job was at the time, but y'know, someone might be interested in whether it's nice to drive.
no not really, i think people have their opinions about vaux, and i can understand that. but to say the VX is a cheap tacky elise isnt right and i will stick up for that.. they didnt make 1/2 as many vx's making the vx rarer than the elise, but they were (as the vx's arnt produced any more) built in the same factory..with the same tools and the same people..using the SAME floorpan / chassis. what did they say.. oh.. its the vx's on te production line, time to not give a shit? i mean come on..
its not a case of its my opinion that its not, its fact.
if im honest in standard form its like the early s2's they suffer from understeer on very tight corners, the ride isnt really that bad but the lack of sound proofing. (the elise has lots) make the pot holes inthe road that you hit seem alot.
the good thing about the elise and vx tho is that the camber is setup using different sized shims on the front and rear, so i have altered it by 2mm on each side giving it a -0.25 change on the fronts. now ther is no understeer at all.
FOV, now thats crap, you can see out the front fine, but looking behind in 'blind spots' is terrible.
alsoi have had alot of people pull out on me due to being so small and not easily seen.. (i can see under normal cars while im driving.)
if you havent driven a VX or an elise i suggest you try one of them on a track day. they really are nice.
Ok ok , You got my respect for that. The car itself is Ugly, i CAN understand why people think its nice though, but damn, they are small, very small, I have seen more VX's than Lotus' So obviously Vauxhall SOLD more of theirs than Lotus did.
My nextdoor neighbour had a S1 elise, was good fun, especially when I was younger and it was the first fast car I'd been in Can't say I noticed the quality being bad, but then the S1 hardly had anything in to fall apart.
If it was my money, I'd buy a Lotus. I just don't like the looks or the badge of the Vocksall (). It's like buying Nike trainers or Niike trainers on holiday. Both good trainers, but one is a cheap imitation and you'll always feel let down.
But your is a nice one, and looks quite nice (for a VX) with the black wheels.
if your talking worldwide, then, its called the Speedster my friend. Vauxhall's Styling house is Opel, who are governed by GM overall. So Vauxhall is more tacky than an Opel, in that sense. Plus, the Opel Speedster colours are more nicer, as is the Opel Customer Support...
