I've started using this program today, after seeing it in a sig somewhere, and I'm liking it. If only I knew how to program, but currently I don't have the time to devote to learning. One day...

Anyway, I was thinking someone should make a widget for LFS. Perhaps allowing a buddy list, a favourite servers list (and clicking on a username/server name allows you to see the stats of the driver/server, or join that driver/server), a way to see the WR or top 5 hotlaps of a given track, a collection of links that can be updated as and when (LFS.net, Forum, Inferno Setups, etc etc) Also, perhaps integrating the useful programs, like FuelControl Online, Join2LFS (i.e. running programs on LFS load), a clever way to see if your version of LFS is the latest, and other cool things that programmers are more likely to think of than me.

What do people think? Is anyone up for such a cool widget (cool for LFS peeps anyway!). I have absolutely NO idea how hard it is to make widgets, nor how hard it is to make the above functionality...

Obviously some of the above would require the permission of the original maker, unless each solution is worked out from scratch...
Hmmmm, looks interesting.
I've never had a bash at konfabulator widgets before, but looking through the docs, they are a fairly easy combo of XML & JS bundled in a zip with the resources.

I'll have at it tomoz when I get back from work and see what I can muster.

Quote from thisnameistaken :I don't know how popular Konfab is - Samurize is the one I hear about most often. I'm thinking the crossover of Konfab-using LFS-racing people is probably in single figures, so time spent developing a widget to combine the two seems a bit of a waste.

I wouldn't want to do it for Samurize either, mind. But then I don't use any of these resource-hogging desktop fluff-generators.

Perhaps, but I've nothing better to waste my time on.
Besides, they might be in single figures now, but if an LFS widget were to be made; who knows?
When the hell did Konfabulator get ported to windows? I missed that one.. :o

I have to admit, without 2 screens at home I rarely use things like Samurize or Konfab, but it could be cool to see some sort of LFS-based stats - total users online, etc.
I just thought it would be an interesting project for someone, and having a LFS Widget might even generate a sale of LFS or two...

And I'd use it
Hmm, I might have a poke around too, what with the name of my website 'n all.

Not only did it get ported to Windows, it got bought out by Yahoo and is now free. Free is cool.
For those of you who dont know what the hell is going on here:

Hehe, thanks Niki, I indeed didn't have a clue what this was about...
Konfabulators....
What about a Tiger widget?
I use Samurize, although sometimes I think I spend longer than I should do making configs for it. I do find it useful though. I wrote a few scripts to do exactly the sort of thing you are talking about Tristan, but I deleted them from the Samurize site because they parsed the LFS site for the data, with all the problems that brings.
The only reason I havnt made new scripts to work with Vics excellent data feeds is I probably wouldnt use it myself. Its alot of work to replicate LFSWorld, which in my opinion already does a pretty good job
