i was really dissapointed by death proof and i thought it sucked. i bought this movie the night it came down, sat down with girlfreind and watched it. both of us were less than impressed.
Planet Terror...A film that made it into my personal top ten all-time faves the first time I watched it...pure brilliance
Coincidentally I watched them both the other day and loved them. Classic films, I'd say Planet Terror was the better of the two, absolutely hilarious film.

Death proof was good but didn't really go anywhere, no sure if it meant to tbh.

Either way the direction and production of the movies was top quality as you'd expect from Tarantino/Rodriquez.

Planet Terror is pretty neat. Death Proof is one of the worst films I've ever seen. Whatever happened to the Tarantino of Resevoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown? Back then the dialogs were witty and interesting, in DP and in KB they just annoy the s*** out of me, like a cheap imitation.

But what I'm really looking forward to now is of course is the full version of this guy!
Watched Planet Terror the other day and loved every minute of it

Death Proof was great too, but over long and padded out in the format we got it in in Europe.

Both films were about 20-30 min's shorter in the original Grindhouse release i believe.

I was pretty cheesed off that they didn't release it in it's original format, complete with those fabulous fake trailers ("they just f*cked with the wrong mexican" ), on this side of the pond.
I know Death Proof had the original trailers in it when I saw it at the cinema, and also, the version of Planet Terror I saw had them in too

Ahh....i didn't see it at the cinema. (Had they released Grindhouse in full i would have gone)
The version of Planet Terror i saw only had 1 of the trailers.
Heh, I just watched Planet terror and tbh it was the worst movie I've ever seen. A boring splatter with that matrix stuff and 80s macho bs.

Just awful awful movie
You need to watch Grindhouse in it's complete form to fully appreciate either film.

A lot of people don't 'get' these type of films. In a similar fashion I imagine a lot of people didn't 'get' No Country for Old Men, when in fact it was probably one of the best films of last year. There's a lot more to look into that what it appears at face value.

'No Country for Old Men' is brilliant. Probably my favourite film of the year....just behind 'Balls of Fury'!!!!

Wow.
Watched 'No Country for Old Men' last night and i have to agree, film of the year. Another Coen brothers masterpiece.

Next to watch is 'There Will Be Blood'. Looks really promising. As does 'The Assassination of Jesse James'
There bringing out a six dvd boxset (you can get it in the u.k too but it's initially Japan only) where you get the whole Grindhouse experience with both films joined up like they we're supposed to be instead of being split. not sure whats on the other 5 dvd's tho..

That's good to hear, as previously the UK got a raw deal, meaning a lot of the magic of the films were lost.
yeah i was annoyed that they decided against doing the full dvd...the 6 dvd box set is £55 tho when it's released...i'll wait a month or two for the price to drop and hopefully pick it up for around £30
