Just want to congratulate and thank everyone for a great days racing, my first at the wheel for this series, and it was quite the experience.
The build-up to the race with all the complications with cutting thankfully (i think) went well in the end, I was a little apprehensive about the usual admins being away for the weekend and the chaos that could have come from this, but i think both admins handled things brilliantly, particularly Tweak having spent hours going through the qualifying sessions to ensure that everyone got the starting position they deserved, that level dedication is way beyond what i'd expect from a series, its certainly what i'd hope for, but the easy option is always 'f*ck em, they were warned' and im sure everyone appreciated the work done there.
GT1 - Couldnt be happier with the result, suprise suprise, the guys have been working their socks off the last 3 weeks, more-so if you count early testing of the 3 cars. It also marks the end of our first full season in MoE as we joined last season at the 2nd race, and our last 3 results had been 4th, 3rd and 2nd, so maybe fate was with us on this one.
I'd have loved to have seen how the SK v Mercury scrap would have ended, it was a shame a series of fairly unavoidable circumstances stopped that from taking place as they were clearly giving us a good run for our money (& mooney!) as were a few other teams at various stages, but forgive me for prefering to settle for the result over a good scrap, I think the season looks set for plenty of similar battles too
I do think a little more respect to the GT2 cars would have been appreciated at times, there were plenty of teams who if in doubt would wait till it was completely safe, and from a GT2 drivers perspective i'd like to thank all those drivers, but sadly there were a couple of aggresive maneuvers which werent appreciated, most im sure were entirely clean passes put perhaps sometimes a little selfish and forceful and should have been done with a bit more thought and respect to the GT2 class.
GT2 - A bad plumber blames his tools, Im blaming.... everything! There arent many things that we could have done worse in the opening 5hrs, we found pretty much all of them and put them to good use. I think we were probably 4 laps down at the 4hr mark, and it was looking pretty bleak, however by the end of the race we'd pulled it back to 1 lap (+ whatever time we were from CoRe i guess). Im glad to see that the class is working well, hopefully this addition will provide plenty of close racing and maybe at one of the rounds we'll be able to one of the teams helping
After doing a few laps round SO Long last night, I can see the carnage already, the track is a car wrecker, and with so many tight twisty sections there will have to be a lot of patience from everyone. By biggest concern is damaged cars, if you pick up a puncture or heavy damage then you have every right to get the car to the pitlane *in a safe & responsible manner* but the section from the first split to the second split is going to be a complete nightmare any time something like this happens, there simply isnt enough room for a partially mobile car to manuever safely and this will only cause damage to other teams. I guess the responsible action could be to shift+p, at a heavy penalty, but possibly removing the risk of a drive-through for dangerous driving and the possibility of ruining an innocent parties race.
I doubt it'd be reconsidered as the location of round 2, im sure plenty of thought was put into accepting this track as a venue as it's been left out in previous seasons, so im hopeful that its inclusion is right although i have concerns and i think a quick test race organised with advance warning and well publicised to teams could help identify/confirm if its a suitable location, particularly with this mixed pace field. It only takes a parked car after an incident, or some form of mobility damage and the rest is down to luck. We got punished last season for being the cause of a pile-up which came from a knock-on result of someone elses actions who went completely unpunished (extremely dubiously too IMO, as is well known, after 3 rules in about 6 seconds of the race start were broke and missed while a witch-hunt began) and i dont want those sort of things ruining anyones race because a racing incident in a blind and tight & twisty section of the track caused a mass pile-up as a result with lost time & damage to the innocent and likewise to the 'culprit' plus penalties etc
I know street racing isnt a new idea, so i can understand that sometimes these things are part and parcel of racing, but i can also forsee the problems that could come from this race.
Eitherway, thoroughly enjoyed yesterdays race, and cant wait for the next round.
