Zeitgeist - find it out yourself
"Zeitgeist was created as a nonprofit filmiac expression to inspire people to start looking at the world from a more critical perspective and to understand that very often things are not what the population at large think they are." - Entire statement
"It is my hope that people will not take what is said in the film as the truth, but find out for themselves, for truth is not told, it is realized."

Zeitgeist the movie

Site also has a .torrent download. Lasts for 2 hours.

Holy crap.. I never did believe it, now I'm just even more convinced about it (about part 1). I think I'll do a search in the library. First 5 minutes are not for the faint hearted. It starts in about 5:10, but I dare you to watch it from the beginning.
I wonder if this thread disappears like a fart in the Sahara
Or men in black will come and throw me in jail as a terrorist.
I didn't watch it, but is this another conspiracy film re: 9/11?
See for yourself. I dont make any comment on part 2 and part 3.
Oh - this thing again... The minute you do search in the library (esp. about the stuff it says about egyptian, ancient greek and zoroastrian religions) you'll be totally disappointed at having wasted 2 hours watching that junk.
Ah, sure is. Along with some bizarre and stupid theology. Excellent.

Ok, I'll tell you later if you were right.

Actually - someone else had asked me about this movie on this forum some time ago via PM when I had criticized it in some other thread by mentioning that in the first 10 minutes (after the stupid 6 minute dramatic introduction music video) or so I spotted enough factual errors to make me not watch it all. Here are some that I sent to the person who asked:

1. There is no mention in the texts that gave us insight to Egyptian mythology of Horus being crucified - mostly because ancient Egyptians didn't care much for crucifying (it was a torture the Romans mostly adhered to, thousands of years later) and also, Horus was a god to them - he went through more spectacular things, nothing mundane and totally unpsychedelic as crucifying.

2. There is no mention of Horus having any "disciples" or of being "born" on "December 25th" - if anything, a sun-related deity would be "re-born" on a date that would coincide with our contemporary "December 22nd".

3. There is no mention anywhere of his "resurrection after 3 days". In all Egyptian mythological stories he is simply reborn, much like Osiris.

Multiply the above for all of the deities and personalities they mention (Attis, Krishna, Zoroaster, etc). They go way out of their way and out of their league and knowledge to prove that Jesus is a rehashed story - which is not to say his story isn't, it is the same old crap in a new wrapping, just don't make up things to prove it.

4. (or actually more like 11, since they mention the above crap over and over) "Horizon" does NOT come from "Horus", it is totally unrelated, it comes from the Greek "ορίζειν" which means "to appoint, to fix" as the horizon "fixes" the division of earth and sky.

EDIT:
Hats off for using a sample from George Carlin's stand-up act though. The man is great.
Well I am not an expert so I cant say anything to the flaws you found. Still, I think I will do some reading of my own. Its not like I have anything important to do. Besides drive hotlaps

Aw hell, I was sure he was Denis Leary Voice sounds the same.
Well, Leary took quite a bit from Carlin so that's not so surprising. ;]
... as is his way generally... :P

Yeah, a friend of mine linked this to me on Youtube. I took the first "fact" to jump out at me, which happened to be on Dionysus. Did some simple fact checking and very quickly found that Zeitgeist is utter bull. A little more metasearching, and I find that many other people have done fact-checking on all the other supposed factoids, and have found that the whole film is based on similarly misleading statements.

So when you get two convincing, opposing statements accusing the other of lieing, how do you know which to believe?
Quote from Bob Smith :So when you get two convincing, opposing statements accusing the other of lieing, how do you know which to believe?

Be a man. Do your own research.

Simple, you get another round in and ask the barmaid..... Ahhh, the Bigg Market, the intellectual epicentre of the the known universe. And if that doesn't work, you just go outside take off your shirt and have a fight !
Quote from Mazz4200 :And if that doesn't work, you just go outside take off your shirt and have a fight !

I thought the moral of the story was two get two other people to fight and profit by selling weapons to both sides? This is where the geordies have been getting it wrong for decades, hence they're all bruised and skint.
Quote from Bob Smith :This is where the geordies have been getting it wrong for decades, hence they're all bruised and skint.

Ahhh, but that's just all part of our cunning plan. Ever wondered why Geordies are so universally liked ?.
We're all skint so we'll do any job that you can think of for a couple of bottles of Dog.
We're always good to have alongside if you should ever get into a fight (seriously, would you really want someone from Basingstoke next to you if you're just about to be set upon by a group of drunken louts ?), and, chicks love bruises .
Everyone thinks we're thick as pig sh*t, but we've got library's and stuff, so that proves that at least some of us can read.......erm hang on, hasn't it just been pulled down ?
And finally, no-one else in the country understands a word we're saying, so they never know when we're taking the piss

So my point is, we've got The Viz, Jimmy Nail and St James' Park, we're the envy of the world, well, maybe the envy of the UK, ermm, at least we're not Mackems

Seriously though, it is a great city though isn't it

(just re-read this, and it's all complete spam, but what the hell, it's never stopped me posting before)

My cousins grew up in Newcastle.. we used to go drinking down by the quayside when I was a lad. I never managed to get into any fights though.. the geordies seemed to have too much fun on their friday and saturday nights out, and wouldn't rise to it at all . Made for some excellent weekends, tho
Continuing the off-topic: with the amount of buildings being pulled down and none going back up, at this rate Newcastle won't exist in another decade.
