Wanted..Legal Eagle
Like the title says..We need a (preferably) Qualified Lawyer..surely there must be one playing LFS..after all. we got just about every other profession covered!

My problem is, I cant afford a lot of pennies, but earn too much to qualify for Legal Aid. Typical Catch 22 situation!
The case I want to bring is cast-iron, 100%.. some 'person' decided to slag off a member of my family in public, IN WRITING, and they signed it!
After reading the other thread about slander/libel/defamation etc, and doing some research myself, it is obvious that the situation I am in screams out for justice...but I cant afford it!
What I am offering however, is a dead easy, but HIGH PROFILE case that any budding solicitor would love to have on his CV. There is a strong probability that costs would be awarded as well, but it is the initial/interim finances that need help.
I personally do not want much financial gain from this case, just public humiliation of the 'defendant'...and believe me, they deserve it!
I will obviously not go into too many details on the forum, but UK users will DEFINITELY be aware of the outcome if it happens...like I said, VERY high profile, guaranteed 'Front Page' material!

Anybody that can offer advice, do so here, anybody that can offer REAL help...pm me
My first port of call would be the CAB, also lots and lots of solicitors will do free drop in "clinics" where they will look at your case and see if its worth pursueing.

If they think you have some weight to the case, some will take it on on the basis they will win, and you pay them after the case, obviously if you lose, you will be footed for the bill.
Sounds like you have the grounds for a reasonable case at least.

Gather up as much stuff as you can - the article in question, and most importantly any proof you can get that what's written is not true. In slander cases that's not easy, but depending on exactly what has been claimed it can be pretty straightforward - for example, if someone has said someone is stupid and then they hand over a college degree then that's a good start.
The more groundwork you do by yourself, the less a solicitor will charge you

Keep it all safe and out of direct sunlight, because you don't want crispy yellow newspaper or something as your defence case.

Find some people (not relatives) who would be willing to appear as character references. Make sure they don't have any history with the person which could come along later and bite you on the ass. Only relating to the claim, unrelated fights won't make any difference. Also, the more senior the person, the better - so if they have doctors or solicitors willing to stand up for them, courts really go for that

Can't think of anything else right now, but if I think of something I'll post again.
Thanks for the help...Went trolling the solicitors in Oxford today, and actually found one that will take the case
His suggestion...He is going to fight the case on EMMY's behalf (after all, she was the one named in the letter!) and what is more, because Emmy has zero income, we get Legal Aid as well!!!

(as a sidenote, signs from the school are that there has been an acute outbreak of "Twitchy-Bum Syndrome" amongst the senior staff )
For those interested, there are some choice phrases in the letter..."lack of honesty and integrity".."constantly acts independently in order to safeguard her own interests" "felt the need to SPY on (a teacher)" , "Left the classroom under false pretences", "Reason to doubt her ability and willingness"..

ALL of this is, to coin a phrase, BULLSHIT!! Most of it we can DISPROVE, some we can justify, and the rest, the teacher CANNOT prove! Obviously I cant just copy/paste the entire letter here, but even those phrases on their own will be damaging, taken in context with all the rest of the correspondence between the school and myself, they are positively DYNAMITE!!!

:bananadea <- going to see a few of these over Emmy's school soon!
