Network related PC freezes?
I've been having internet connection issues recently that haven't resulted in complete loss of service (so no disconnection from servers or AFAIK any lag) but the fluctuation has been causing me performance issues in the form of screen freezes.

LFS continues to run and when I watch a replay of where a freeze occurred it doesn't seem to be reproduced and nothing seems a miss (other than the rather retarded crashes) it seems LFS is still polling the controller throughout the freeze and other cars are showing up fine. The freezes are usually short (under half a second at a guess).

I'm connected to the internet via a Netgear wireless router and PCI adapter. I'm not quite sure why bad connection quality affects the performance, happens in offline games/programs as well. My guess is that there's some kind of service that is triggered when the connection drops anybody got any ideas of how to get rid of this?

On a side note has anybody been having connection issues with BT Yahoo recently?

Offline, but with the PCI card still active?

Have you tried hooking up with a cable and dissabling the wireless to test ?

IIRC windows periodically checks for available wireless networks, I think you can turn off this "feature"

with my wifes wireless laptop, you only have to turn it a bit or walk round the room and it looses connection.

do you have a cordless phone or other wireless devices?

any other other PCI cards installed? soundcard maybe? creative?

just some thoughts off top of head

Good luck

Only other PCI card is a Philips soundcard. I haven't tried it wired and there's not really much point now I've got a new PC on order and when I've built my new PC i plan to move it and could easily try it wired.

I'm fairly certain it is something to do with networking because if I disable the connection the problems disappear.
