Can anyone help me on this...
Its just latin homwork

What are passive and active verbs called, for example, are they conjugation? declension? You get the idea.

Anyone who helps is very nice and i owe you big time

Thanks
Sorry that I can`t help you,-

But damn, man do you need to learn Latin? :O
How on earth should that help you later in life? I know that most names on flowers and such are on latin, but I don`t see any use for it outside school.
I say the same thing about Irish. I hate it! It's not useful whatsoever.

But I'd prefer to learn Irish than Latin
"Non Illegitimus Carborundum"

Sorry, but thats about the only Latin I remember from school....
I also know "Per Ardua ad Astra" from my first real job...if that counts!

They're called voices.
I hit = active voice
I was hit = passive voice.

P.S I'm not that good at Latin (taking GCSE in May, got mock tomorrow ) All we do in Latin lessons is eat cake and talk about films!
Lol, I got latin too... I am not really good at it...

I do know Chapter I:

Felix est in horto.
Felix videt gemini(i?).
Gemini ambulant in horto.
Marcus et Lucius sunt gemini
Pater videt Felix et Gemini.

(not sure about everything though)

Translated!

Quote from BlakjeKaas :
Felix est in horto. Felix is in the garden
Felix videt gemini(i?). Felix sees Gemini
Gemini ambulant in horto. Gemini is walking in the garden
Marcus et Lucius sunt geminus. ? what?
Pater videt Felix et Gemini. The father saw Felix and Gemini

Good practice for me

Should have eaten less cake
Quote from JamesF1 :Should have eaten less cake

It was lollies, creme eggs and chocolate mice today!
how long have you been doing Latin then?

Because that was Chapter I.
The only words/sentences i know in Latin are:
a dato
a priori
Abeunt studia in mores.
ad arma
Per aspera ad astra.
ad memorandum
acta est fabula.

I know the translations, but i leave these to the examinees to translate.
Quote from Bladerunner :"Non Illegitimus Carborundum"

Which isn't even Latin to be exact. It is some sort of Latin/English bastardation. God have mercy to who invented it.

Latin's the root language for a majority of world languages used today. It's certainly helpful in a lot of respects, and especially later on in academia.

At face value, sure Latin is useless but that's not what it's about.

The reason people still do it at schools is because it shows an ability to learn and understand a difficult language.

I know that, but its still a great motto!
In fact, if I ever get a coat of arms, that WILL be my motto!
Brutus ad sum iam forte / Caesar aderat / Brutus sic in omnibus / Caesar sic in at.

I would imagine Latin is VERY useful if you go into language research and construction. But it's not terribly useful if your a builder or a secretary (though perhaps it depends on the builder's firm!)
If I had the choice I would have done Latin at school, instead we had 2 options, French or German. I did German because there is something about French techers that just creeps me out. Latin is very useful, since loads of modern words actually come from Latin.
