Ah I often wondered why they did that...thanks Thumbs up

...a burnout is just for show. Why would you need more grip if you can't break traction in the first place? Uh-hu

For real drag race cars normally a "line lock" is used, which just means the front brakes can be locked up without any rear brake pressure. However in this video of a real drag run by a guy named Ranger in a stock Corvette Z06 with drag radials, he can do a burnout by using partial brakes just after getting the tires to spin.

Ranger again, on stock tires:

Quote from me :
Its heats up the tires, brings them up to proper tire pressure, and it makes the tires softer. *edit* (I forgot to add, it also cleans the tire of any debris from driving around the pits; rocks, trash, etc.)

Tires are expensive. People wouldn't do a burnout before every pass if it didn't serve a purpose.

There is breaking traction and being able to do a full on burnout, and then there is slipping the tires slightly driving off the line.

Consistency is whats important in drag racing. Doing a burnout will help keep everything the same lap after lap
This is the same issue as for track racing, we need a formation lap to heat the tyres. For drag racing it shouldn't be a full lap ofcourse - just drive to the starting line - heating the tyres on the way (no need for fancy stuff).
Maybe warp cars to the proper starting position just before the start if they have not managed to get exacly there.
+1 ^^
I put the brakes at 95% front and did drags without burnout and some with and the time werent much different O_O They were all around the 13.50 (My set isnt THAT good I know.)
Heating the rear tyres helps increase traction, but your acceleration will only be increase when traction was limited in the first place. Which in a low powered car like the XRT, is only very briefly.
I posted this in one of the other "drag racing" improvement threads, but I think it could be useful here as well:

There is an InSim app out there that handles most of this stuff. It allows pre-staging, staging, and can run Pro or Sportsman lights. It would be better if LFS handled this itself, of course, but this add-on makes a HUGE difference in the realism of drag racing in LFS (along with the new clutch model, of course). And, because the lights in LFS are disregarded, you can do a burnout to warm the tires (and it does make a difference).

I ran a server with this app last night for about 6 hours and had lots of people join. It was great!
