So, how many 'famous people' do you know?
I know a few people who have the same names as famous people - how many do you know? Please tell me (especially the funny ones!)

For example, my next door neighbour is called Paul Robinson (england goalie), Someone at my school is called Tom Hanks (actor), Dekojester's real name is Jonathan Palmer (F1 driver and of FPA fame), my aunt is a best-selling author and one of my friends was sued for £3 million in Jersey.
I don't know anyone with a famous name, so I'll share some totally awesome star-spotting moments.

Last year my wife ran into the young guy from Wolf Creek at our local rego office. He was getting his boat license. They had a pleasant chat.

Some chick who was on Neighbours for a bit (she had an affair with that Boyd guy) works around the corner from my house at a Jamaican restaurant. She's hotter in real life than on the telly. Just so ya know.

I plan to be famous myself later this year. I have to get a little better at luring backpackers to my torture camp, but just watch this space.
I knew someone called Andy Rouse a few years ago, but lost touch now. He wasn't especially gifted behind the wheel.

Other than that I don't know anyone with a famous name without them actually being famous.
a bunch of local TV hosts...
nothing fancy

Erm, Jack Green of STCC fame, Sam Hopkinson, John Brennand, Chris Raemich and Becky Rose for the same reason :P

Apart from that, no-one.
I bumped into Thurston Moore on the main shopping strip in Istanbul a couple of years back. He's famous in the alternative music scene but perhaps not a household name. He's one of my only true heroes anyway so that was pretty big for me.

Also, I saw Peter Garrett (of Midnight Oil) hop out of a taxi on the street I was living on in Melbourne, many years ago. He's really a giant (tall) like Thurston, so maybe if I had better eyesight I'd be spotting more celebrities?
Anybody heard of Colin Dexter? Used to be a regular on my bus until I switched to the coaches
Also Sir Roger Bannister gets his weekly shopping in the shop where Mrs B works, along with Martin Keown (ex Gooner). Sir Richard Branson sent me a PERSONAL Christmas card once, after I had successfully scrounged £15,000 off of him
I had my photo taken with Barry Sheene during a Brut 33 promo in the late 70's, and had a pint with Ian Botham and Viv Richards in the 80's

I also have about 900 people to bump off before I can claim THIS title:http://www.thepeerage.com/p23802.htm#i238011

Yes - He went to my school! (a long time ago mind....!)

Seriously?

(P.S, if you hadn't realised, Paul Robinson the England goalie is not my next-door neighbour - just a namesake)
I have no claims to fame myself or know any famous people, but my dad arrested Linford Christie's sister!
Quote from J@tko :
Seriously?

Yep...all true! Baz Sheene stopped at a filling station (Texaco, of course) where I was working, saw my bike ..a Dunstall Suzuki GT750 Sheene replica..and asked me if he could 'borrow' it (and me) for the Brut promo that afternoon...cheeky git had ME arrive at the front door of Boots in Exeter on the bike, while HE sneaked in the back door!
As for Richard Branson, as you will ALL know, he used to own The Manor at Shipton-on-Cherwell, and when the parish council wanted funding for a new village hall, it was my job as parish clerk to write all the begging letters..he chipped in with £15k, and sent me a card every year while I was still the clerk.
Ian Botham and Viv Richards..just a case of being in the right pub at the right time..there were only about 8 people (including staff!) in there at the time, so I had a chat and got their autographs
The closest i've ever been to a celebrity is about 15m from a stroppy Matt Neal at Rockingham last year, and about 2m from the Queen in 2002 when she visited my town.
My dad's first job was selling ice-creams on Weymouth pier with none other than the DJ Tony Blackburn.
I met Fisichella on Hungaroring
I don't know anyone that has a famous name, so I have to duplicate Hankstar's star meetings. Cillian Murphy, Sienna Miller and Keira Knightley on a movie set. Although I'm not sure that saying 'hello' or having a brief conversation really counts as "knowing" someone

Mental Note: I must meet more people with famous names.
Shaked hands with Petter Solberg.

He first belived I was english, so he started speaking his absolute amazing english xD
I've met loads of famous people in my time, but i can't claim to actually "knowing" any of them as friends.

I mentioned in another thread that i knew a David Coulthard who never stopped talking about F1 and was from the Scottish Borders, back in the 80's, but i don't think it was DC the future F1 driver.
I see Mark Addy now and then in the pub (fat bloke from Full Monty, Still Standing, etc.) - he went to RADA with my girlfriend's brother. Bump into a lot of actors in pubs when they're in town doing a turn at the local theatres but I don't "know" any of them.

When I was in the USA:

Mike Diamond (Beastie Boys) once sent me a fax.
I shucked clams for Bill Parcells when he was at the NY Jets.
I met Yogi Berra.
I met (then NJ Senator) Bill Bradley.
I met (then NJ Governor) Christie Whitman.
Todd Rundgren came to see my band, which has frustrated me ever since. His daughter of course got married to a different bassist from the Leeds area (the bloke from Spacehog) who she must've met around the same time, and he's much shorter and uglier than I am! If only I'd got friendlier with Todd, I could be shagging Liv Tyler right now. Oh well, you win some, you lose some.
And (best one) I once got stopped in the street by Jack Nicholson.
I once got stopped in the street by Jack Daniels
So did I. When I woke up, I was in the gutter! And about 14 hours had passed. And I had a headache.
lets see, i went to highschool with a Leif Erikson.
that's all i can think of for people i know with famous name sakes.

for actual celebrities, lets see, almost got into a wreck with Dave Justice (former baseball player), because he whipped out of a parking space without looking. and DJ Danger Mouse was my RA in college
Oo who have i met lets see.

Matt Chadwick-Australian idol finalist series 1, hehe also my cousin
One of my other cousins is Queensland Champion at Body Boarding.
Phil liggett - The voice of cycling
Cadel Evans - Tour De France Cyclist
And a few other cycling pro's who's names escape me
Doc Harry - Harrys practice once met him in the Qantas lounge when it was still there
Most of the Kangaroo's football team back in 2002 or 3
Most of the Essondon football team also around the sameish years.
And im sure theres a few others but i just cant think of them.

Also i dont know anyone with a famous name so im no use to this thread.
anyone expect me?

,actually i´ve seen Marko Märtin,Urmo Aava
I've had a meal in a restaurant with Bryan Robson sat on the table next to me,

Shook hands with the legend: Alan Shearer

WE pulled into a parking space at a shopping centre and alongside pulled Peter Beardsley (another legendary Newcastle player)

I've met Warren Barton, Rob Lee (along with most of the NEwcastle squad) and Dougie Lampkin (Trials Rider)

And that's all
You guys are really dtretching the definition of 'knowing' someone.

Passing someone on the street isn't knowing them. Sitting for a drink with them might do, unless all you say to them is "OMG u r t3h awsums!".

Just seeing someone definitely isn't knowing them, otherwise I'd have included Colin McRae is mine, since we used to see him land his chopper in our neighbour's garden to visit them.

Like Neils and Tristan, I am also very well acquainted with Jack Daniels. In fact, he's in my house right now.
I don't know any one famous or with a famous name.

I met James May in the local park.

Well he was hosting the Surrey motor show (which was in the park) so technically I did meet him in the park

So, how many 'famous people' do you know?
