Quote from Dajmin :
I recently decided against picking up a diesel for two reasons. The first being that I don't think it'd be as useful for the distances I'd be driving. Did I hear something about diesels being less efficient over shorter distances or something? I can't remember.
And of course nitrogen oxide emissions are far more harmful to the world than CO2.

Yeah, you should be doing more than 20.000 kms a year before a diesel gets cheaper than petrol. But I do drive a lot and next year I'll be going to school, that would be about 50 kms a day. So I'll probably be driving a lot.

And honestly, I don't care about the emissions or whatever, I'll have a pretty high economy car, so why would I care? It's the people with the big heavy cars that should start thinking, or eg. more than half the population of America.
lol i have another good idea(this happened after having a read of the'you know youve been playing too much lfs thread), you could get a hatchback that was similar to the xfg and have it painted like your version of the ukct skin lol, and maybe try to mound the g25 wheel in it lol
Jack, get a Ford Fiesta (any "new shape" model from 1998 onwards)! A 1.2 or a 1.4 should be fine on insurance.

They look good basic, they have the reliable Zetec engine, Ford themsleves are pretty good with any problems imho, doesn't guzzle petrol and will get you from A to B basically

I plan on getting one soonish (when i have the money), i passed my theory yesterday
All i gotta do is wait for my test at the end if August lol.
I'm not sure if I really want a car atm - if i have it for a year, then have to sell if when I go to Uni but have the joy of spending the most money on insurance i'll ever pay, and I really don't have the cash for a car full stop (still trying to get a job). But, my Dad wants me to get a car, and I know he'll make my life hell if I don't - shame he isn't going to put any money towards it at all!

I'm selling my bike around now (as all the Year 11's GCSE's are well and truly over and are looking for a little summer project).

PS - School WiFi works even on the bus - WIN!
I don't really WANT a car that much, but I need one. The band keeps gigging in places that take forever to get to by public transport. Even our rehearsals take me a while to get to. 90 minutes on the train, 30 by car. Giving me an extra 2 hours of my Sundays will be a life saver.

Of course the expense is the biggest issue, but thankfully I think I can afford it all. Mercifully at 28 (birthday tomorrow) insurance is about the least of my worries

maybe ill see ya around
Whats with all the Ford talk. They are the worst cars on the road today. Simply, and Truthfully. Transit van is a prime example of a bad van.

Somebody else from Sittingbourne!

I will let you know when i eventually get a car lol, will be a while yet.

Congratulations on a brilliant answer.

1) Worst cars on the road? I think your forgetting Hyundai, Proton etc.
2) That's why the Transit Van has been the best selling van for years!?!

Come back when you know what your actually going on about

It's only the best selling van because it's cheap and nasty, let me ask you, do you prefer Britain, Germany or America?
Focus ST, Mondeo ST220, Fiesta ST TDCi. Not exactly the worst cars imo!

Also, the transit is NOT a bad van! One of the best bets you can go for if buying a van. The only one close to the transit is the sprinters. They can go for miles.

Also, @ jack. I know it may not be in your budget, but try a quote on a suzuki swift GTi. I done one for a 96' shape and it came to £900 a year. Im seriously considering selling the pug for one.

Quote from BlueFlame :It's only the best selling van because it's cheap and nasty

I don't know what transit van's you have been seeing then...

Yea sorry m8 i remember now lol - had to kill the team off because of college time etc :/

I was thinking the same thing, but the ones he has been seing have probably been used and abused, which is what there made for. @ blueflame, there a van mate. Something that will get oily parts, and heavy parts in it almost all of the time. Its a van ffs, you cant expect it to come fully loaded like a maybach.

Exactly.

Transit Vans are made for transporting equipment, parcels etc - they are bound to get dented and scraped imho.

The reason why they are the best selling is because they never give up, they just keep on going and going and going.....
I'm a big Ford fan, never had any problems with Fords here at home, and my dad has been driving them for almost 30 years.

My Fiesta is 10 years old and still going strong, and I know a few with 300.000 + kms, still going strong. I believe at my garage there is one with over half a million kilometers, still going.

Oh yea, you can't compare Ford Europe with Ford America. The American Fords are different cars (completely different), they are built in different factories too. They're actually quite independent from each other.

And I bet BlueFlame prefers an overpriced Audi any time. You can have your Audi, but I'll be cruising with a better equipped car, for a longer time, and for half the money.
You two British guys probobly think Ford are english. So. It's American. Get over it. American cars suck and always will suck.
European Fords have about as much to do with American Fords as you do...
Quote from Jakg :European Fords have about as much to do with American Fords as you do...

They are sold in America as Merkurs, so what's your point? They are only cheap on insurance because of popularity, and thats the reason Ford has any followers at all, because a Fiesta is the cheapest to insure.
You say American cars suck, however the European fords are NOT American cars, they have very VERY little to do with each other and while over hear Ford are quite good, Fords in the US suck...
I always wondered why some people had problems with BlueFlame, because he always seemed to be a nice guy. Now I understand.

My Ford Fiesta and my dad's Ford Mondeo were built right here in Belgium, in Genk. Did you actually know that Ford Europe has a different design and engerineering team than Ford USA?

The Fords which are sold in Europe as well as in the USA are heavily modified for the market, and there aren't many of those anyways. Only the Focus was sold on both continents I believe. Fiesta isn't available in USA and it's a wonderful car really.

And what car did you drive again, BlueFlame?

The most finely Refined car of it's time, 1997 1.9D Skoda Felicia, basically a Mk3 polo, but alot bigger inside. And if anyone says anything just because it has a Skoda badge they need shooting, because they obviously have never driven one. Only 1 thing wrong with it, and that is the battery compartment, it's too cramped. Most comfortable car i've ever driven. And yes, that includes driving a Transit van, Land Rover Discovery , Land Rover Defender, Golf Mk2, Audi 80 avant, Porsche 944, Golf Mk3 Tdi so theres enough to know what's what. The Defender from 1992 is far better than the Transit of 2002. 10 years difference.. Transit has no torque what so ever, you need to rev the van hard to get anything from it. It's a diesel, it shouldn't need to be revved hard. The turbo is pathetic, for months I thought it wasn't turbocharged, until I had to top up coolant, (using the ****ing KEY to open the bonnet, what a shitty invention THAT is.) and saw a measley little turbo hidden away.
I find that they have plenty of torque, especially if you go for one of the bigger engined ones. If you go for the smallest engined ones, then what do you expect? For a van as cheaply priced as a transit, you should'nt expect too much!

Oh and nice choice of car..not. Possible one of the ugliest hatche's you could have picked, along with it being a diesel from that age. And i think you overexagerated a little. My grandad used to have one (ROFL, what does that say about them!) and i did'nt find it more comfortable than the cars you posted, ESPECIALLY the audi! At least the felicia's are good for one thing though, crappy handling and helping attract people to you...so they can laugh at you.

P.S, i dont know about the age of the discovery or defender, but the other cars you have driven are pretty much pre <97, so of course they may be less comfortable. Suspension technology would help in this part.
actually i like the key to open the bonnet idea, the are many good reason to have it
Quote from james12s :actually i like the key to open the bonnet idea, the are many good reason to have it

It's a pointless Idea. You must use your key to open it, meaning you can't turn it over then open the bonnet, nor can you start it, then shut the bonnet without locking it properly. There is no benefit to having this on your bonnet. It should be a bonnet release catch and that's it. That's all you need, why do you need a key? for what reason, would you need a key for it? It's hardly for security reasons is it? Why take the van when we can steal his engine oil! Infact, take his whole SUMP

Lmfao this kid has no idea. Not that any of his opinions are worth listening to, but anyway, the new Mondeo handles better than any A4 other than the RS4 according to Evo, for example.

European Fords are just that. They are not designed or built in America or for the American market.

The list of cars you've driven is pretty awful, a couple of Landys and a couple of Golfs which are hardly known for comfort, in fact the MK3 Golf is one of the most uncomfortable cars I've been in.
