i would like to see , i dont know if t can be done , dont thnik so , where you can highlight a driver on the map so you know where he is at any given time of the race .
right u look at the map on the right and you have yellow for infront bright for + 1 lap in front orange for behind and red for - 1 laps behind but say theres 32 cars and i wanna know where my team mates are , i can select them in the connection list and highlight them Example green , so i know where abouts they are on the track .
When racing I like the idea of having a specific colour to show team mates, but it could get confusing because they are no longer the correct colour to show their position relative to you, i.e. a lap down or something.
But if you are spectating, like you say, there is no real need for it because you can just spectate them in the exact same way as you describe and find out all the information you need, without making the colours on the mini map a little more confusing.
I thought about "minimap-tuning", too. What about making the relative arrow/car on the map blink as soon as you mouse-hoover over the driver's name in the connection menu? (damn, this sentence is weird)
But now my tuning-suggestion:
Show late-joiners and shift-p'ers in a (very) different color than true in-race cars. I really do think real lapped drivers and late joiners have to be treated differently by lapping cars... and also behave differently.
for example:
- late joiners: "move out of the way RIGHT NOW, or I'll report you!"
- real lapped cars: "be prepared for a lapping maneuvre... if you're not terribly fast and just did a real pitstop."
It should semi be the same for both. If the server your on is allowing mid-race joining, then those cars are simply considered being Lapped cars. BOTH of those drivers need to let the leader or other faster drivers by them as needed, and BOTH of them shouldn't be blocking. NEITHER of them should be expected to get out of the way "RIGHT NOW" as thats not safe for anyone. The faster driver also has a responsibility to be aware of the situation and choose a safe place to pass and not get upset because his new PB was ruined on the last turn because he came up to slow traffic - its a part of racing.
Back on topic, I do like the mouse over idea that XCNuse suggested in his thread. I don't know how terribly useful it is to add even more colors to the minimap without some form of input (such as mouse over on username / info) as its nice to know who you have a chance to pass, or has a chance to pass you. Or if you are in the clear and don't need to worry much.
To the topic author: Please use some punctuation, I had to read the post 3 times to somehow understand the idea.
I like the suggestion though: being able to select a person from the Connection List and see their car highlighted on the map would be great Or the other way around, selecting someone on the map and having some information about them, such as fastest lap etc.
Also, when you are Tab-scrolling through other's cars, is there a hotkey to go back straight to your own car? If not, it needs to be implemented!
Btw, is it just me, or do a lot of native English speakers have much worse written English compared to many foreigners on these forums? Because as soon as I see a post written without a single comma, all in lower case, lots of u's, it's bound to be from a native speaker. No offence meant though, don't take it too seriously
How could you not see this as an offense? I don't say you're not right, though...
For me, forums prove how low mother tongue skills are in general. Many people don't give a damn and think it doesn't matter how you write*, but it does. Bad language leads to misunderstandings , which again lead to conflicts.
