I've just found this on wikipedia. i think it is funny.
In 2003, humor columnist Dave Barry urged readers to exercise their constitutional right to telephone the American Teleservices Association, a trade group that represents telemarketers. This prank was inspired by language telemarketers' lobbyists were using when urging the FTC to block or limit a U.S. do-not-call registry. Thousands of readers phoned the ATA--when its leaders complained about the disruption, Barry responded with mock contrition, "I just hope nobody interrupted the ATA's dinner."[5]
Yeah, we have one of those too. Not that it actually works or anything. The bastards sure call me all the time regardless. I've just stopped answering the phone when I recognise one of their numbers. I really should start doing some pranks instead.
Agree. Called "Brennøysundregisteret" or something similar. Still, I at least gets 3-4 calls each week, everything from callendar sale, but the most anying things are these new phone companies, like Ventelo that calls me at least 1 day each week to tell me how much I can save. If I wanted to change I would done that myself, not by telephone

I don't know about you but it is quite simple and easy to get rid of them. Just interrupt them as early as possible and say you are not interested. Repeat the not interested part and politely thank for the offer but no thanks. Bye bye. The telemerketer usually gets it quite quickly that he is wasting time. They are just doing their job, which is to harass people .
