What do you think of my song(Guitar only)
I was just messing about on my guitar the other day, and came up with this.
http://www.mig-z.com/soundsgood.mp3
Its just the guitar, i havent written any lyrics yet because i suck at it.
But what do you think of it?
Ive only been playing guitar for less then a year so its not amazing, and the sound quality may be rubbish becaus i just recorded it through my mic.

Thanks Migz
Btw does the song randomly pause while playing for anyone else? It does it to me cant work out why.

Edit: Its only about 2 minutes long, planning to add some more into it, and i make a few mistakes playing it
sounds nice

Thanks Did you notice any bad bits in it? Or something that just sounded bad?
#4 - robt
do you use up and down strokes? sounds a bit like all downstrokes to me probably just me tho. have to try and find some cheap old recordings off my phone when i get a second.

EDIT: how long have you been playing?

Theres upstrokes, every few downstrokes theres n upstroke, ill try and re record it tomorow and get a cleaner sound.

and ive been playing about 7 months but only lessons, never really practised anything of my own until now.

ahh right. round a few of my very old files. then newer ones i had to record on the fone cause the mic broke might put them up. some are from when id been playing about 10months. others from the last couple of months (been playing just over 2 years) Will edit and upload in a second.

EDIT: old and new attached, sorry for the talking people in the new stuff. and for the mic which cant hold volume in the old stuff. and also sorry it sounds so bad :P

2nd edit: cant fit new files on, wil try again in as second

Ahah, listning to your acoustic song right now, and it sounds cool And now bleurgh, yeha they all sound pretty nice Do you have any tips on song making? cause i really cant think of anything new

Edit:Listened to them all now come on upload your newer ones

got some new bits now. "new tune" is my favorite on these. and the "new string" on the other zip file was just a new set of strings on a £70 guitar and £15 amp someone gave me! (cant even EQ it) just the make and thickness of the strings giving it that punch.
Not really any tips no, just fiddle really. try picking chourds, adding an extra note, moving one finger a fret or two along to find a new/good sounding note/chord try picking it or playing it, or a mix of both. just go with how ur feeling at the time, thats how most of mine if not all of them came out. either that or from messing up learning other songs and finding something new thats how the "new tune" came up. was a mess up of trying to learn the intro to "mexico" by incubus!

Haha i love your new tune one, thats really amazing!
I showed it to one of my friends who's also writing some guitar songs and he likes it

yeh i was quite proud of it. just gotta watch out as the guitar takes a thrashing, gotta play the acoustic quite hard, comes out as sounding a bit like two guitars. i would tab it out, but i cant remember it till i play it Also, ive never had any lessons, just learnt from tabs and watching people. Found although it can hamper with learning skills it leaves a bit more open for creativity.

if i ever get a mic and my electric working again i might. its been in pieces since november need to dril the pickguard for the new pots but havent found anyone with the right peice. soon though i hope! then i just need a job and a proper amp gonna try and find you a few links to pretty good acoustic stuff. by the way do you have a tuner? your high E sounded a bit out in that recording.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnD769xbMKE cant play this, it hurts my head just trying!

Yeah i do, but yesterday it was waaaay out, i only noticed because someone told me, and i mean all my strings were out, so i re tuned it up when i got home but i mustve not got that string perfect. Ill try and fix that too and re record.

And i watched that video, my head just died

And yeah if you can get some nice acoustic stuff for me to try out
although my guitar is electric

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v ... 5VMeA&feature=related another one id love to play, just listen to the intro. and you can use your neck pickup with clean to get acousticy stuff, well depending on string gauge. what do you use? got d'adarrio 11's on mine (think its a .42-.11 scale) what music do you listen to? might be able to find some "easy" songs
another good way to learn to make your own (i found) is find a song you like, and see if u can make ur own by re-arranging the chords, or replacing one chord and re-arranging, or adding another chord and just strum about.

Yeah that is pretty nice. And im not sure about my strings, their still the same ones on it from when i bought it.
I listen to everything really some of my favourites are acdc, red hot chilli peppers, guns n roses, rem, nirvina, oasis, nickleback.
Some of the newer rock out i like too.

And hmm i dont acctually know any full songs myself, but i can just try taking the parts of songs i know and messing about with that.

its always good to learn at least one song all the way thru, keeps your memory good for learning things, you also start to work out how diffrent bands style their music. one you probably not heard of, but a band called feeder. their older (pre 2002) stuff is catchy and simple. might be worth learning a few of those songs (can learn them in about 10mins.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AgPfKkHpHc just learnt this by dallas green (of alexisonfire) weird tuning, but quite good if you can do strumming and picking. probably a bit too much after 7 months though. I better get to sleep, 1:30am, gotta be up at 6am let me know if you find anything.
Also noticed youre in jersey, theres an amazing guitarist i know over there, cant remember his last name though! know his 1st name is alex (edit:last name macon or something), has a motorbike and a wacking great amp, should hear him a mile off lol
#17 - Migz
Oh ive heard of feeder a friend of mine listens to them. Alright cya, ill post tomorow when ive re tuned my guitar.
and no i havent heard of him any clue how old he is?
#18 - robt
think hes mid 20's but nevermind, you might hear him one day. he seems to know everyone so thought it was worth a try
its best to try and learn songs you like. but for feeder id suggest buck rodgers and oxygen. (although buck rodgers is a funny tuning but barely anybody notices)
#19 - Migz
Haha alright
Well im downloading those feeder songs now to see what they sound like. And then see which one is simpler to learn.
I started to play guitar when i was 15 years old. I went to take lessons (one hour per week) for about one year, then somehow dropped it. I played a few chords now and then over years, but my guitar was basically in the bag most of the time.

About two years ago i started playing again now and then, and since about half a year, i play at least once a week. I missed it a lot when i really think about it, and am happy to be playing again now. I don't take lessons tho, and i never play songs that already exist. I just play my own stuff... most of the time its not even "songs", it's just playing random stuff... it's a bit like "meditation" for me sometimes.

I always got bored from just playing alone. Because of that, i started recording some basic stuff on the computer about two years ago. I simply looked for some beats, then played something along to them. Having this on playback, i could record another melody, playing along. Etc. Basically i'm just trying to "replace" a band here, which i dont' have.

The problem for me was that i had no microphone, so i recorded with my 10W marshall amp. I went from the headphones out to the line in of my pc. Which is something you shouldn't do, and results in a bad and weak signal. I could record the signal (with crap quality), but it wasn't good enough to work with programs like "guitar rig" or "amplitube".

It was enough for some fun. I never really had the intention to make songs. I record only for the reason that i don't want to "play alone". However, it was fun to record those improvisations. The downside was the guitar always having the same sound (since i couldnt do anything with the weak signal). And all recordings sounded the same somehow, not to speak about the quality.

From time to time i thought about what to do... what would be the right way to record/use a guitar with your pc. But i never really investigated on the subject. Until about a month ago, when i started to look around for a solution.

After some research i bought an M-Audio JamLab, but wasn't really happy with it (yeah, it was a quick "research"). I then decided for a "Guitar Effects Console" from Zoom. Actually, there is this guy called "mattrach" on youtube. He listed his gear, and i liked the sound of his recordings, so i just bought what he was using.

It's a device that you can use together with your amp, or connect it to your pc via USB cable. This way i can finally record in decent quality... plus i can finally use effects and have some different sounds. I never liked to use software for making music (amplitube, etc), since for me, it somehow "kills the atmosphere" of sitting there and making music.
So i'm really happy about this purchase. I can have all the sounds and effects on a physical device, and then use the pc, only to record what "comes out of it". This way i can actually just make music, without having to bother with programs and settings...

I still didn't record something serious tho. It's as i said, i just record so i have something to play along. And since it's always random stuff... improvisation, there are always mistakes. Wrong notes, chords, timing, etc.
However, now that i have a good quality, i think i might try to put something more serious together... sooner or later (still messing around with all the effects i can use now).

For an example of an less serious recording/improvisation, have an ear full of the attachment (as i said... there are mistakes, i've warned you guys!).
It's still low quality tho, since i had to put it down to 80kbit to fit the max. attachment size of the forum.

*Personal guitar story/rant over*

@Migz:

It sounds nice. What i could hear is that you sometimes have these little breaks when going for the next chord. However, this will disappear with the time, since it's all about practice. You play clean and nice, and i think you'll get better and better in no big time.

What i would suggest is to either use a metronome, or play along to beats, which you can find online, and play on your pc, stereo, whatever. It's good to get a feeling for the rhythm. I played without for a long time, and i felt like i had to work alot on my rhythm when finally using them. It's sometimes hard to find good beats tho (or i am just bad at looking for them). Besides, it is much more fun to play along to something anyway!

@robt:

I've only listened to "new tune" so far, but i really like your style there! *takes off his hat*

Yeah! If an admin see's this could he change the title to something like "Post Your Musical Recordings" Or something like that.
And then ill change my first post so that its about people posting there recordings

And im 14 when im about 15 ill probably stop my lessons. And about metronomes, i dont know why but i cant use them, well i can but sometimes my mind gets confused betwen the metronome and me strumming.
And there were even larger gaps betwen chords before, i edited some of the larger ones in audicity. But sometimes i can swap chords really quickly, and sometimes i cant

And im listning to your song, its really nice and soft I like it.
Where did you get the drums from? a website or did you just get someone else to do it for you?

Haha lol. I could never try playing other way around, even though logically if people fretted using their writing hand, then they could do things quicker?
but yeah i tried playing other way around on guitar hero, and i cudnt XD let alone real guitar.
Sweet tunes. I'd post some personal stuff, or throw up some of my bands recordings, but my dial-up sucks. All our proper stuff is lossless wma anyways, but I'll see if I can grab some songs off the mixer next time I'm in the studio. Theres some pretty good talent here on the LFS forums, keep it up.
