Links to car mod vids on youtube - forbidden?
http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=40932

Why was that thread (originally named "WTF F40 in LFS") removed? It included links to certain videos on youtube that showed modified LFS. And two screenshots I posted from a certain mod car made by some certain well known programmer here.

I remember these threads have been removed previously too.

Forum rules do not forbid videos or screenshots. At least I don't see how posting a video or screenshot is same thing as posting modified exe.

It does one thing - gets people posting a million topics asking where to get the mods and for people to do mods for them.

Its better that the fact someone did it before isn't advertised on the official forum, it just attracts too much attention.

Now.. put the 2 together...

You've linked to the forum agreement, not the forum rules.

There is no specific list of rules. What is and is not acceptable on this forum is a mixture of common sense and whatever the Devs say is acceptable. The moderators enforce that mixture.

Precisely. Common sense and Dev's wishes, perfect example, thanks Jack
Why have an agreement and rules? Thats just pointless IMO...

E: If thats the case, Why link the forums rules to that, When you remove posts and threads for all kinds of bs?

Right, accidentally picked a wrong word.

Ok. I guess that answers the question then, vaguely at least. I'm not rebelling against this but I'm sure many people don't like this way dealing with this sensitive subject (mods).

Ambiguity is not a good thing, ever. A list that can be amended of Devs Wishes would be nice. I've been on the other side of the Devs wishes once, and I do not wish to be there again. Could of been that I lacked common sense at the time, but I also lacked a clear, defined rule also (I know this, as I checked before hand.)

I think it's very rare that anyone who is acting inappropriately on the LFS forum is unaware of it. Obviously there are occasionally going to be instances where individuals depart from the conventions and expectations, but the forum has functioned a long time on common sense and mutual understanding and I don't personally think it needs to change.

There are stickies giving guidelines in all the areas where it would be easiest to transgress - add-ons, beginners etc - and when there are significant shortfalls, we amend those threads to clarify pointers. By and large, I personally think the place runs nicely and not too oppressively or over-moderated.

One thing I do know is that the very moment you create a rule-book, specifying what is and isn't allowed, you give far too many opportunities to say "I read the rules and it DEFINITELY didn't say I couldn't...". That puts the devs on their back-foot, it invites disputes, it's time-consuming and it's not desirable. I know from my own experiences with the CTRA, SOME people will argue the toss with you over the most ridiculously stupid things, and they have ENDLESS energy to argue and argue. It takes just one person like that to dessimate the enthusiasm of the admin group. The individual finishes up getting banned, not for the minor transgression that started it all, but for their bloody-mindedness arguing the toss afterwards.

The agreement should be sufficient. If you aren't sure if you can or not, then either don't, or ask. Keep it simple.

Thanks for the clear up, I'll just ask next time.
