Hey all!

I just had an idea when I was racing with fbm and saw one thing..

This:

I love that windshield or whatever it is, because it has those little bugs smashed into it.. It's just so graphic, it just improves the graphics..

But when you look at this:

It looks like it has been made with paint. There's no those little particular things.. This may can be improved by editing the skin, but I think it would be better if makes it default with some detailed things..

When you look at this pic;

You can see different kind of little things in there, like little worned
paint..

Lighting improving could be good too.. There could be more shining and things like that.

Well now you are thinking that this isn't graphic game and everyones computer can't run the game after that, so buy new computer! Nowadays even cheap computers can run lfs like 100fps
graphics full.

This thread is now about e-penis!

I have limited 150fps..
And what about my older computer? It has about 40-50 fps when there are no one around and around 30 on "normal" racing conditions. And this with max graphics. And I bought this computer on 2003 (IIRC it was april).

I don't see the problem here.

Not true. My computer runs 30-40fps with me only and 20 with 10 cars...

Quote from Tomba(FIN) :so buy new computer!

yeah, sure, just buy a new one. i don't even have money for S2, and i will have for a new computer...

So, don't play?
Quote from Tomba(FIN) :So, don't play?

I think that is too dramatic alternative...

You want better graphics? I sitate you:
Quote from Tomba(FIN) :+1.. Furiously fast, go play nfs.

Now I ask you to go play NFS...
Tomba i think everyone else will agree with me when saying this. I really really don't like your attitude! You better change it or you won't last long...

No they can't, all the people saying they get that kind of constant FPS are just lying, even top of the range computers will drop as low as 20, 30 or 40FPS at the start and under heavy load.
Quote from Tomba(FIN) :So, don't play?

...and what the hell is wrong with you telling people to just buy a new computer or sayin just stop playin if they can't afford S2 let alone an upgrade.

Can't wait to see the reaction you get from now on when you post and how many server ban lists you've just been added to. Way to make friends and influence people dumbass.

I have over 40, and I am not lying. But that wasn't the point of your post...

Not true, my computer is 15 months old and aside from playing triple screen, single screen will never go below 60FPS which is what I lock it at...

Why would you ban someone who purchased the game for saying something like that? It may have not been the most appropriate or nicest thing to say but it's not worth banning someone from multiple servers.
Jesus, I even have muppets PMing me to tell me that "oh my PC gets more than that....blah, blah..."

The point is you wont get a solid 100FPS from whatever this guy calls a cheap PC, it WILL drop much lower than and even top of the range PC's drop below that.
How many "fps" can eye/mind register..? All above that treshold is useless.
About 60fps.

People can tell the difference way above 150Hz even. More FPS is always better as long as your screen is capable of displaying them all (though obviously you get less benefit the higher you go).
I remember from my quakeworld days that humans can notice the difference in fps up to 100 at least. That 24 fps thing is incorrect I'm afraid. Games != films.

On topic: I welcome all graphical improvements even though my pc struggles at every race start.

E-penis my ass

Damn, then I remembered it wrong (Or remembered flawed information).

Either way, graphics COULD be better, but these new fx's should be under options, so they can be disabled. Great that AA is coming to LFS. Next step to the next level...
I hate to get technical but.

The human eye has a flicker fussion rate of around 50-75 depending on the person and some other variables such as brightness, This means that at that level things become completely smooth to the human eye. If you set your monitor below 50hz you will notice a flicker, thats because the frequency of the light pulses from your monitor are slow enough for your eyes to see the gap in between.

anything above it will not make a video look smoother, but it gives you more overhead just in case the FPS drops. The rate at which your eyes send the signal to your brain is much higher than you could ever hit with a computer screen so the "Frame rate" is well above any number you've ever heard anywhere.

The reason cartoon animation running at ~25fps looks smooth is because of the bluring effect of older tv screens, Interlacing also masks some of the stuttering you would normaly see. With progressive scan systems like DVD players and game systems the frame rate must hit at least 50fps for things to look remotely smooth, but because some people have a higher flicker fussion rate, you'd have to hit at least 75fps for everyone to not see it.

On a final note, the flicker fussion rate is because the rods and cones in your eyes don't deactivate right away. They stay active for a while after, so you get a sort of an internal bluring effect. This is more pronounced if the contrast is higher or the light is brighter. This is also why you see trails behind lights when you see them at night.
Quote from Gekkibi :Wrong. IIRC, it was 24.

That is so far from wrong it's not even funny. There is no exact number as different people can see different numbers of FPS depending on numerous different things. 24FPS drives me up the wall, I find it super choppy myself.

Most people play on LCD monitors (thats another debate all together Shotglass) which are 60HZ, there for anything over 60FPS is irrelevant. Upper end LCD TV's are now using 120HZ technology, the first generation of these LCD panels will not accept an input of anything over 60HZ. The upconverting from 60-120 is done within the LCD itself.. Although this still looks a lot smoother for gaming I would bet that either next year or the following year the monitors will actually have a 1920 by 1080 @ 120HZ input. When that happens you will be able to get real 120FPS which for 99%+ of the people in the world will be more than good enough.

I cannot wait until this technology spills over to the PC monitor world... it will make a HUGE impact for gaming.

edit: The above post is totally correct, although some people can see over 75 most people cannot.

Just ftr I really doubt anyone gets a constant 60 FPS - with my PC (link in my sig) at 2.8 GHz I still get 40 FPS at the back of a full grid at 8xAA (although it's CPU limited).

Of course the second that the field spreads out even remotely it'll bounce of vSync all day long, but at the start it wont - I think this is where a LOT of confusion comes in as they think that racing around on their own = "constant FPS"

EDIT - Just did a test with lots of crap open (although with a Quad and enough RAM that shouldn't be an issue) and I get 22 FPS at the back of a full grid of FBM's at SO Chicane with 8xAA and lots of hi-res textures, and 16.9 at the split-second the lights go green.
my pc which averages 150-200fps with a full grid of ai will sometimes drop to single digit fps.
My new (well, 4 years old :tilt PC gets a good 15FPS at the back of a full field, and can go around 100 during normal conditions (less than 4 cars on screen)...This is with 256mb ram, a 2.8Ghz processor and two Radeon 9800s...

LFS isn't that heavy after all
