Multiplayer freeze
The problem has, so far, appeared only in online races. During each race, whether it's a 3 or a 15 lap race, LFS freezes at some point at a duration of 3-4s. The problem hasn't repeated yet twice in a same session, but as soon as the next session starts, I can be assured that another freeze is imminent. During the freeze I can hear the sound looping over and over again, and once the simulation is resumed, my car is where it should have been hadn't the freeze occured, and all the controls input given during the freeze has been processed - meaning, if I turn left, or hit the brakes, I'll see the result once the simulation is resumed.

As you can imagine, this usually makes my online races a nightmare, because in every race, at some point, I end up either in the wall, or on the grass, or in the sandtraps, etc. The real bugger is if the freeze happens at high speed before a corner, with an opponents car a few meters in front of me. The both of us usually end up out of track, and I now that a simple "sorry" from me won't do much in such situation.

My specs are: Athlon 3200+, 1Gb DDR, 128Mb 9800 Pro, Creative Live! 5.1.
I've tried turning all of the in-game options (that includes graphics, sound, game, player, etc.) on/off, without a result. Tried running LFS in windowed mode. Killed all the background processes. Tried several different Catalyst versions, 5.6 to 8.3. Prayed a lot.

Any suggestions/ideas/help?
Judging by the number of answers, I guess there's no solution.

I've had the same problem in the last couple of days. The things that I've done to fix it are: Added extra cooling to the graphics card (direct fan); updated gfx drivers; updated Logitech software (new release recently to address a BSOD problem); changed the USB port that my wheel connects to; changed AA and AF settings to Application Controlled and everything else to global device settings in the control panel (nVidia, but you get the picture).

I think the main reason for the problems is an overheating graphics card, but I can't be entirely sure. For me, doing ALL of the above has resulted in the problem being fixed.
Well, guess I'm gonna wait a few more weeks until I buy a new PC, then I'll see what happens.

I've already tried all you suggest, and none of it helped.

I'm pretty sure it's not graphics card or networking / internet connection issue, since I played graphically way more demanding games for longer periods of time, so it can't be overheating, and I never had such problem playing other games online, FP shooters being connection hungry.
I dunno, I'll see.
