It's not government prior restraint because schools can "censor". School computers and newspapers are not considered a public forum and therefore does not have the same protection as regular newspapers.

Also, keep in mind, just because something is legal doesn't necessarily mean they should be automatically encouraged. Censorship, when used correctly and carefully, can develop social discipline. In Scheneck V. US, the majority opinion is that the government can censor when a clear and present danger's presented. If you cannot yell "fire" in a crowded building purely on the basis that you want to see panic and people getting hurt then I'm sure there's other means of censorship in acted as well.

Americans often misunderstand this, but the constitution and the supreme court rulings are there to protect you from centralized tyranny. It is NOT there for you to abuse as much as you wish.

But this is over the top and with no restraint and for no reason. And I am not abusing it by trying to use google images am I?

i dont know if it will work with all yall buy my school blocks most sites you know addictinggames/myspace and such but this indian kid showed me a way to get around it. now if your schools blocking system lets you download certain files go to www.google.com and go to where it says more at the top then go down and click where it says" even more" and at the very bottom you will see google web accelerator just download that restart your computer and depending on what your school uses you can view any website (yes even porn). hope it works.

There was a good example on TenTenths recently. His final year project (can't remember if it was A-Level or Degree) was to design a roll cage for a car. He'd been 'taught' FEA, but learnt it by reading websites rather than attending class, and completely misunderstood what FEA results mean. The teacher listened to his report, took the submission, and then I told him he was looking at it the wrong way around - the FEA program was telling him the hex was closer to failure than round, and hence the one thing he DIDN'T want was hex tube. I think I upset him by telling him this.

Quite frankly the internet is USELESS for learning, but quite good at getting a very very brief oversight, or simply getting everything wrong.

I'm sure I already posted this, but Tristan is wrong on SO many levels.

I NEED the internet. Having a large amount of books is great, but our School is in massive amounts of debt and so buying books (which, btw, are never used...) for every possible essay for every possible essay we could write is useless.

It's perfect for the LFS forum. The forums are banned at my school anyways, so why not?

This has turned into spam gentlemen. If you wanted to vent then you are done. If you want someone here to fix your problems then you're severely misguided. Talk to your teachers, your school's sysadmins, the headteacher. They can resolve the issue for you, not us.

If you intended to find tips on how to circumvent the filters or blocks then you're more likely to be causing yourself even more trouble if you get caught.
