Right, since I got the new PC I've set up a network so I can use my old PC as a fileserver. The connections at the moment are one connection from each PC to my router (100Mbps) and a connection directly from the old PC to the new PC (1Gbps). The connections are all configured correctly and operational. However, the speed of the gigabit network between the two PCs is really slow - it looks like it's limited to about 100Mbps speeds. I've checked the status lights on each of the two gigabit network cards and they're both showing at 1000Mbps. Each of the operating systems report the connections as 1Gbps and the files are being transferred through the gigabit network cards (by status lights).
The new PC is running Vista 32 bit and the old PC is running XP SP2.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
edit: I had to reinstall Vista for another problem and now this slow network problem has been resolved for whatever reason.
